Ram Question, and possibly other things.

So I have a computer with a fairly nice i5 6500 so I am not needing to upgrade that for quite a while, however what I want to know is if 8gb of ddr4 ram will last me a while with a nice gpu or if I will need 12/16gb. Also if the answer is yes, what gpu would you recommend for a build like this in a $100 budget.

EDIT: I do video and light photo editing along with a bit of gaming on my computer, at the moment mainly borderlands so something that could run it at a constant 40-60fps on high settings would be ideal.

Yes, it would last a while with 8GB (unless you play Space Engineers with planets). Also, GPU for $100... used 280/7970?

Thanks a lot for the answer! I plan on getting a 4gb stick to go with a current one in my pc (thank goodness ddr4 has dropped in price so much) and looking at getting this hella good deal on a gtx 760! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vamery-GTX760-2GB-128Bit-GDDR5-PCI-E-HDMI-DVI-Graphics-Video-Card-2-Fan-New-/351425291032?hash=item51d2946318:g:K3QAAOSwMmBVrZo3

I wouldn't really consider that GTX 760, after looking up the I/O on all others it's standardised to be 1 DisplayPort, 1 HDMI and 2 Dual link DVI. Plus, I've never heard of Vamery...

That's not a GTX 760. They all have 256-bit buses and that one has a 128-bit one. Also, I'm pretty sure all GTX 760s have at least 2 6-pin PCI-E power connectors. That only has one. And then there's the fact that the power connector is on the side. Most, if not all GTX 760s have them on the top.

This isn't a 760. Check the specifications on the geforce site: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-760/specifications

256 mem bus. The IO is sketchy as hell as well for a mid range card.

That card is a scam. It is a fake GTX 760, but has the specs of a GT720. Seriously. Avoid it.

Thanks for informing me, it did seem like a really strange price also the off brand was a bit sketchy.

EDIT: Now looking at a new r7 265 rather than a used gpu. As much as I would like better processing power none of the used gpus I've been finding really offer much less than market new price.

Ah, thank you! I was wondering which graphics card has the same specs as this fake GTX 760!

How about something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-ATI-Radeon-HD-7950-R7950-Twin-Frozr-3GD5-OC-3-GB-GDDR5-SDRAM-PCI-/111846772210?hash=item1a0a964df2:g:OkYAAOSwI-BWJa2f It's around $130 after shipping, though, and I dunno if you can stretch your budget that much.

definitely looks like a good deal but I won't be able to stretch my budget that far for a while.
