Psst: I use this stuff http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/akasa-ak-455-thermal-compound-and-heatsink-cleaner-kit-n58gu to get thermal paste off of CPUs and it works well, if you're interested.

Once again, thanks, but parents are like "Ermhagerd, the derlivereh" and can't convince them and also I don't want to spend much. I'll just

Depending on what your doing if your just cleaning thermal paste you can use a barely damp cloth to wipe it off, it just won't clean out the pores of the metal as well as isoproyl but will do that job.

I've used water before fine, but this time it's my main rig. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/servisol-isopropyl-alcohol-200ml-re87u it is then. Sorry I've been a bit closed minded, but budget and closed minded parents force me to be.

Yeah that should work it is still isopropyl alcohol, even if it is in lower concentrations it will clean better than just water.

I've checked, and nope. I live in an extremely small town with like 2k people in it in the middle of the English countryside, so I don't have any shops that supply it nearby.

I bought some isopropyl from a pharmacy once. After looking at the label, I saw there was also some castor oil (.5% or so) so bare that in mind when cleaning more delicate parts :)

That stuff seems pretty pure. Not to mention it made for this kind of purpose, it would seem. The sheet mentions only isopropyl alcohol and co2. http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1633049.pdf

It's so hard to find good alcohol at a reasonable price sometimes :3

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

The specific gravity for that product is .787 at 25ºc. So it should be around 99.9%.

I would just ask them if they have anything that's chemically clean, and that evaporate quickly. You will get something that will work pretty much just as well as isopropyl alcohol.

Go through the questions section. Someone asked your exact question and it was answered 99%

Does not having a second parenthesis around something bother anyone else as much as it does me? (Like if this statement was missing a second side)
