Should I Get A 1440P Monitor?

Hello all, I've decided to post this to get your guys' opinions. Here's my situation: Should I upgrade from my 24" Acer H236HL (1080P IPS) to a 25" Acer G257HU (1440P IPS)? The monitor costs $260 and if I were to buy it, it would be around Christmas time. I like this monitor since it's 1440p but also keeps the size down at 25" so I can have a higher PPI. Should I do it? My system is in my signature and I only play Battlefield 4 to be honest.

 

Another question: 1440p 60Hz IPS or 1080P 144Hz TN

I don't have the horsepower to drive that unfortunately. A GTX 970 can only go so far.

If you had no monitor yet, I would say yeah, but I don't think buying a brand new monitor specifically for an extra 360p is worth it at all.

I've gotten used to it, I play BF4 on completely max settings.

You'll get more screen real estate, and the higher PPI is always nice.

 

As for 144hz, honestly you'd probably see similar results 144hz vs 1440p. They're both going to stress your card a lot more than you already are.

You're getting almost twice the number of pixels going up to 1440p

i would recommend you do move to 1440p...but i would also recommend you get 27'' instead...25'' is rather small for 1440p...even 27'' the text is still rather small for my liking (i come from a 24'' 1080p display)

 

GPU wise you,re good with a 970 so long as you're okay with tweaking the settings in most demanding games...i used to play on a GTX780 @ 1440p and i was able to play any game at 60FPS...BF4 for example i used ultra preset with 2xMSAA and that gave me around 70FPS...so you'd get like 80FPS on a 970.

ALSO, if you want to test the performance BEFORE you get a 1440p monitor you can use DSR (downsampling) and run games at 1440p on your current display this will give you a good idea if your GPU is meeting your expectations...here how to enable DSR:

When I jumped from a 22'' 1080p to a 27'' 1440p monitor I was awed by the clarity. I didn't even realize that I had the monitor set to only 60hz until a week later. Refresh rate is a whole different discussion, though.

I'm aware about how it all works, and how it all looks.I've looked at 1440p monitors before. I, in my PERSONAL OPINION, don't find it just to scrap one monitor for a new one that's 1440p. It's a waste of money IMO.

1440p is great for the extra vertical resolution.

 

I had a choice between 1440p and 144hz, I chose the 144hz over the 1440p monitor.

i have a monitor that can do both 1440p and 144hz, and i would much rather have it locked to 60hz rather than see it's resolution decreased to 1080p.
