This has nothing to do with anything, but I feel like this is so stupid that everyone needs to know. A friend of mine went to another friends house to fix his computer and install an h100. Originally, he had some idiot he met at his job build his computer, because he didn't know how to do it. The idiot claims he has a custom loop and brags about some overclocking record he has...

Anyway, when my friend went to go work on it, the first thing he did was take out the graphics card. The motherboard shifted. He originally thought the motherboard was missing screws. I was on the phone with him, so I told him to see if the idiot even used stand-offs... Guess what? He used the standoffs as screws....To screw in the motherboard. One of them to be more specific. The idiot screwed in the motherboard using one standoff and no screws. This might be hard for you to understand, so I'll explain it again. When the idiot built this computer he took the motherboard out of the box, placed it directly into the case, and screwed it in with one standoff and nothing else. The only thing holding the motherboard in place was one standoff on top of the motherboard (not underneath).

My friend then called the idiot and cussed him out, they got into an argument and the idiot said that new motherboards were made to be installed that way...My friend asked the idiot what he did with all the other screws that came with the case and the motherboard. He threw them all out. He used one standoff to screw in the motherboard, then threw all the other screws and standoffs out. Also, the back side panel wasn't screw on, and the front side panel only had one screw, the rest of the screws, he thrown out.

This is just the biggest combination of laziness and stupidity I've ever encountered. I thought I'd just share it, because something this stupid needed to be shared.

I built a computer for my friend once. I taught him how to build a computer in the process. (Including OCD cable management).

Thats how it should be done.

This is why instead of asking people to build it for you, you can watch Linus' video on building a computer and D.I.Y and gain experience.

He also did not screw in the graphics card, it was just in the PCIe slot, no screws. And he tried deliberately to take the 8 pin power connector, wrap it around the motherboard on the side with the RAM slots, and stretch it across the front to the 8 pin connector on the motherboard. No words can describe the stupidity.

I remember when i were an "intern" in a PC Shop, oh god the horrors putting 2 screws only on motherboard and all other kind of nonsense, when a cpu and motherboard dies they just switch it for something that is a lot worse and most of the stuff they were making tons of money was used core 2 duos that they get for free from netherlands and germany and sell them here thats why i had to smuggle my components from Serbia :/ . I actually wanted to work in a computer shop here but never again in this shitty country em i going to enter a computer shop.....

AMD Radeon 7870 Gigabyte OC / Intel i5 3570k / ASrock Z77 Pro4 /Samsung 840 EVO 250GB / WD Blue 500GB 7200rpm / Kingston HyperX T1 2x4GB 1600mhz / SeaSonic 520w M12 / Thermaltake v4 Black

People should only let those they trust build their coms for them..

Funny thing is, the guy did, and still, trusts him.

The idiot claims he's been doing this for years and came up with this BS saying that the Crosshair V(the motherboard he installed) was designed to be installed without standoffs, which is BS, and his friend still suggests that maybe we were the ones who are wrong. Even if the case and/or motherboard had built-in standoffs, which they dont, that is still no excuse to only use ONE screw to hold up the motherboard, and the crosshair V is a pretty huge motherboard.

Whatever though, if he breaks something it's not a huge loss, the guy is rich. He bought a computer 2-3 months ago, and now this is a completely new one with an 8150/crosshairV/7970 (The idiot picked out the parts) and he only plays starcraft. (8150+starcraft=lol) He also dropped another $1000 or so on two HP IPS monitors(Got IPS monitors by chance, not knowledge, just picked what was most expensive I'm assuming) to replace the two he already had, and a speaker system.

whywhywhywhywhy, *tries to stop caring*

Why dont you tell your friend you will build it for half the cost, not only will he get a build that is right, but you will make money.

Too late, that's what we stressed to him, but he did it anyway. The idiot convinced him he was more knowledgeable. They're both kind of idiots anyway. Btw, if anyone didn't already notice, "MythAcid" in this thread was the guy who went over there to fix his computer (the one with common sense).

From the way you described the "idiot," he seems to be conceited and prideful. If that is the case, then I wouldn't really bother with those types of people. The effort to penetrate their thick heads won't be worth the time. If that is not the case, where do we draw the line and intervene? Do we allow them to spread their misguided knowledge to others? Or will we simply hope that in time, they will learn to fix their mistakes on their own? How will they see the light? Do we point them to a tech forum and allow the community to help them and grow as a whole?

Just something to think about.

Wow that has got to be the worest build story i have ever heard! How did that not short out the motherboard? id think if the pins were stabbed into the back of the board that would cause some really bad issues!
