This is why there are thick manuals that come with practically every component of your computer, yet MR. intelligence thinks he doesent need them and uses one screw to hold up a big motherboard and a GPU, i just, i cant even imagine how someone could be that naive.

That guy is either lazy or stupid, probably both. Unfortunately a lot more people than you think are like this. I just fixed a co-workers laptop that she just got back from an unnamed retailers "squad" of "geeks." It stopped charging the battery and they blamed it on a bad motherboard and there was nothing they could do (except charge her the $60 fee, of course.) That diagnosis sounded a bit weak so I took a look at it. The pins in the power jack were not making contact to the power cord so I popped it open, bent the pins back, and bam - working laptop in a little over an hour.

Sadly people idiots like that can even get hired to work on computers.

Well...I guess the best thing to do is to learn from this situation. If he's inclined to do so, he should check out some how-to videos and figure out how to put together a PC for himself so we won't run into this kind of mess ever again.

I built a computer for my friend once. I taught him how to build a computer in the process. (Including OCD cable management).

Thats how it should be done.

OCD cable management is the only way to go. OMG I hate my friends laziness inside their cases.

In the end I take the point of view unless proven other wise everyone's an idiot until proving that they are not. It's harsh but honestly it works. You just can't have a condescending tone when dealing with end user or public.

Honestly this isn't just an "idiot" issue. It's more of him being a blatant asshole and irresponsible sack of shit who is taking advantage of someones lack of knowledge and pissing allover them and lying right through their teeth. Lazy, arrogant, and plain stupid is more like it.

Don't most cases already come with the standoffs in? Or at least the last 5 or 6 cases I have used have. You might have to put some extras one depending on the size of the mobo, but still.

i work at the geek squad, and let me tell you that you won't believe that things i see there but reading that....i think its the worst thing i've heard of...wow. also, even some d.i.y.ers just shouldnt even try because even if you have the will, doesnt mean you know the way. it literally pains me to see some of the things i encounter at work

...When I built my current computer I completely forgot to install the standoffs on it. That was with my old motherboard though, when it started shorting out I bought a new one (planned to upgrade anyways) and I realized what I had done...I'm still ashamed about it to this very day.
