GPU for 1440p later on, and 1080p Currently?

Section35
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Best value = 390X
Best performance = 980 Ti
Cheapest option = R9 380X

No Intention of OC'ing, but I may later on. I'll probably end up using the 1440p monitor for productivity more than 1080p so y'know. Or Should I go up to a 980?

Fury X.

Why would he get that over a 980ti?

980ti, regular fury, 390x, or 980---> the 980 is also not really worth it imo unless the price came down a little

BTW the 980ti is the only one I can guarantee will max out any game in 1440 out of the ones I said

Anything above a GTX 970, or R9 390. Both will need mild turning down of settings to play at 60fps at 1440p on AAA games.

It seems you're rich enough for 980Ti. Just get it and you'll have no questions with 1440.

Meh, I just always mix the two up.

Because (in lots of GAMES) the Fury X performs neck-and-neck with the 980ti at 1440p and then starts beating it at higher resolutions.

OP, I'd recommend a Fury (standard,) a Fury X or a 980ti if you have the budget.

I used to be quite active here.

A stock 980ti yes, not an aftermarket one which I assume he would be buying, I do agree with the standard fury as an option though.

Yep. A lot of people don't realize that adding gobbs of AA even at lower resolutions can often be more demanding to run vs higher resolutions with lower or no AA. Plus at 4k, do you even need AA at all? (I don't know, I've never seen a 4k panel in person).

What I do know is by using VSR/DSR at 1440p+ on a 1080p panel gives a much sharper image with no need to use heavy AA and thus improving visuals AND performance at the same time. ;)

I'm not rich by any means, as a dairy farmer we get along but don't have money to burn. I was thinking of future prospects with a job and whatnot.

You could do an AMD 380 or 380x or 390, as long as you are aware that whatever your game auto-configs itself at is what you should stay at. As a note, I am NOT an AMD fanboy, I just can't afford NVIDIA's cards like the 980 or 970 and I would not recommend a 960 compared to AMD.
