Hello Community,

Im new to the linustechtips forums and came here because i have a problem: I REALLY want to play Fallout 4, but my PC can run it.

My specs:

Q6600

GTX 260

6GB DDR2 RAM

The officail minimal requirements are out of my budget, so i need a cheap way to upgrade my pc to play. I got about 200 euros(max. 250) . My friend wants to sell me a gtx 560ti for 30 euro so would that be a good trade and enough? is there a cheap but strong cpu for a lga 775 socket?

Linus showed how to build a 8 core for under 150 but honestly i dont think i have enough pc knowledge to do that.

My brother with a sandy bridge i5 and a gtx460 is able to run it at low settings no problem!

I would say try to grab a used 290 from ebay or something

good point... , but it seems unrealistic compared to the official minimal requirements...

the requirements posted on game boxes are 100% bullshit every time

Your only feasible option would be a 750ti and 2gb ddr2 upgrade....

I also thought about that the 2 gb ram shouldnt be a problems but the 750ti is over my budget because i will have to upgrade my psu too

Just play new Vegas it's better.

thx for the tip sherlock i already played it through 3 times now

I dont think you'll need to upgrade your PSU for a 750ti (it takes in next to no power and it doesnt need a aux power)

Just grab 2 more gbs of ddr2 and 750ti and you'll be gold

30 bucks for a 560 ti is a really good deal, it performs on par with a 750 ti which costs about $80 used. Make sure you have the PSU horses to power it though(gtx 260 minimum is 500W 560 TI is 500W as well). The q6600 will be able to run it, as it is the same engine as fallout 3 and mine was able to run that just fine.

EDIT: Do factor in that thr 560 ti is an older platform that might not support DX12 (Still, it's only 30 bucks).

Fallout 3 and New Vegas were Gamebryo; the precursor to Creation, which was used in Skyrim. Fallout 4 uses a heavily modified (aka bloated) version of Creation.

A Q6600 will run it but it's going to be taxing so a solid overclock is a good idea.

You will be able to run it as-is with some intelligent tweaks to the graphics settings. You'll have to use reduced quality render distance and low quality far detail on everything with only 6GB of RAM though.

Minimum requirements are just the companies saying "you need to be this tall to complain". Also buying it on Steam you have the refund policy in case you run into unplayability issues.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
