for the love of gaben please use http://puush.me/ for screenshots and stuff. also it will run but mods are an unknown quantity and could drastically hamper performance in the game. So long as you dont go crazy with enb etc the game should run reasonably well( the meaning of the term "reasonably well" can vary from person to person)

That laptop would do it fine. But really you could go back to anything that just has Intel HD graphics and it'll still do fine at 60fps+ unless she goes for texture and shader mods

I don't think that with a lot of mods 4GB RAM would be enough for Minecraft alone, nevermind the rest of the system.

Sig under construction.

'Run' yes, 'play' probably not.

That GPU is more powerful then the HD5650 (1GB vRAM) in my laptop, and that GPU manages Minecraft at the same resolution with the distance set to far.

I'm getting a pc for my sis for Christmas and all she wants to do is be able to play minecraft and download mods. She doesn't care all out specs or the resolution. Can this laptop do the job?

-snip-

That laptop will be fine-it may have the same resolution as mine but that dGPU is a lot better- my laptop already plays Minecraft very well, and its from 2009/2010.

Recommended settings says it only needs 2 gb of ran

2GB of vRAM isn't really needed at that resolution, but it may be useful for games other than Minecraft.

I stand corrected then.

I usually say, especially for laptops, don't go lower than a X50m dedicated GPU.

With an 820m the GPU would be more of an issue than system RAM. You can still get away with 4GB of system RAM while playing newer games (that aren't retarded and lock you out based on specs) you just need to be mindful of your background programs. So long as OP's sister doesn't go ham with the mods, run 50 browser tabs or install every toolbar she see's a system with those specs would be fine.

without mods ye. I'm gonna talk from experience and whilst my laptop was older with a pentium dual core and onboard AMD graphics + 4gb of ram, minecraft was horrible for my girl. I just built her a micro pc with AMD 7870 am3, 8gb ram, ssd etc for £400 including monitor, keyboard and mouse, i suspect about $500 usd if not less. I could have shaved £100 off that price easily by not using aio cooler, cheaper monitor and case and maybe opting for 7850 instead, thats the path I would take, my experience with laptops hasn't been great, they age quickly and aren't upgradeable

Can't really tell, my laptop has an i7 processor and Intel 5500 graphics and it can screen record and I can play Minecraft at the same time. I know Asus sells a 2-in-1 with an Nvidia chip.

Got an Android, never going back to apple again (notice I spelled apple with a lowercase and Android with an uppercase)

Anything with a U series processor wont be able to do minecraft with a large modpack. I personally think this has more to do with the CPU as minecraft is a CPU intensive game. I owned a surface pro 3 with a 4th gen U processor and the thing would thermal (or power) throttle to hell after a few seconds. On 1080p, regular minecraft and smaller mod packs such as Tekkit works fine (20-40 fps). If you get into the bigger packs like Sky Factory 2 or Crackpack, it will run it at 2-5 fps, which is not really playable. If you don't care about size, there are many bulky laptops that are big but sport better processors.

my experience with minecraft on laptops... we have had 5 different laptops, all in the price range of 450-700 euros. none of them ran vanilla minecraft at 60fps(normal visioin length whatever that was called), but over 30 at all times if you used optifine. tekkit ran at 30+fps all the times back in the day, heavy modpacks didnt run at all. fuck the gpu, pick the one with the best cpu. if u want smooth mc gaming buy macbook
