Benq XL2420Z 144Hz over displayport?

Go to solution Solved by Falkentyne,

Run wagnard's display driver uninstaller in WINDOWS SAFE MODE then reinstall drivers.

Hi guys, I recently got myself a third BenQ XL2420Z 144Hz monitor, since my GTX 970 only has 2 DVI ports I cant use the included  cable to get the 144Hz,So, I bought a DP cable, but I cant get it to work at 144Hz... I tried in all ports on the GPU, with 2 different DP cable on my 2 monitor, even tried on my second rig's GTX 680 with both cable, cant get it to 144Hz, however, I can have both 144Hz screen over DVI plus a third monitor over DP @ 60Hz without a hitch

It's the cable. Some display port cables are low bandwidth and can't cope with higher refresh rates and resolution. I would recommend finding a better cable, of you want to be sure get something that is hbr or hbr2 as it signifies its capable of high bandiwth rate and will be more than enough.

I don't how the GPU knows the cable is lbr but it does and it limits your options.

At the end, when I did the reinstallation, more "resolution options" appear, and now I can put it to 144Hz, thanks to both of you for replying!
