Is this a good gaming pc?

jvb50m

Yup, that's pretty solid. Might wanna add an ssd as a boot drive, and you should be able to find a 24" 1080p monitor for the same price now that black friday is upon us.

any ideas?

also do i need to update my bio with this mobo?

my budget is 800

If that motherboard needs a bios update, you won't be able to do it.  You need a working CPU to do that.  Contact the retailer and ask them if the bios supports Haswell Refresh CPUs.

Get an MSI or sapphire card. If you can, fit in an SSD. I would recommend a 380X if you are gaming at 1080p rather than a 390 and get an ssd as well.

This.

You won't be able to tell whether you're getting a board that's been updated until it's too late.

Sig under construction.

Not necessarily. Some mobos come with a feature that allows them to boot up straight from a usb and install drivers.

That looks great, but definitely add a 120GB boot SSD

I'd switch out that ASUS 390 for an XFX, Sapphire, or MSI 390.

Otherwise looks good.

Then try an 1TB SSHD, you'll really like the better boot times and better responsiveness

My suggestion would be to add an SSD (just a small one for the OS), and maybe get rid of the optical drive (do you need one?).

Also, just making sure you've got reasoning behind the 1 stick of RAM: 1 stick will leave you the option to add more, but if you aren't planning to add more, get two smaller ones to take advantage of dual channel.

Also, I have no opinion or knowledge about that monitor, but I feel like it might not be the best.  Make sure you check some reviews and know what you're getting.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

is seagate a trust worthy brand?

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st1000dx001 (edit: gave the wrong link)

also is there any way I can check to see if the bios is up to date on new egg?

Yes seagate is a good brand, you could ask a question on the product page
