Hello there, console peasant here.

Hello, I'm ZV-! I'm someone what you guys call a "console peasant" or a "heathen".

I'm looking into converting to the glorious master race of PC gaming.

I've set up a build but I'd like to hear your thoughts!

My budget is 1300 euros, pcpartpicker says it's 1329 but I'm able to get it ~150 - 200 euros cheaper because I'll have less shipping costs and the parts will be cheaper from where I'll be ordering. (Dutch webshops.)
I'll be using it to play big games like GTA:V and Star Wars: Battlefront, but I'm not planning to stream or anything special, just gaming and daily (school) use.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this build!

That looks pretty good to me. You could likely save a buck here or there but I totally approve of the build.

When in doubt, re-format.

just fyi you dont need a PC to be PCMR

you just need to acknowledge that PCs are better

so technically youre not a console peasant ;)

I would go for a different cooler for the cpu. 5-10 more bucks can get you something quieter and cooler running.

But asside from that, you could have fooled me for a first time system builder, that's on par with anything I could have thought of. Pretty much flawless, well done, I can suggest nothing else.

Whoa, I'm overwhelmed by the quick replies!

I'd like to say thanks for replying (do you say that on forums, eh? if not sorry!)

Gotta love this forum already! :)

I have to agree that my PSU is kind of overpriced and I'm already looking into a cheaper one!

I used to think that consoles were better but I know better now I've accended to the master race! =)

I'll also be looking into a better CPU cooler,

I'm interested in the NH-D14, but I'll research a bit more!

Do you have it and could you tell me how it is? :)

Thanks for the advice :) ,

I have one more question though:

How do I know if it's able to run a game on a certain setting before buying well the components?

Because I'd like to know if this pc is able to run GTA:V/Star Wars on high mode.

Problem is, he has a 4690k, which can be overclocked easily to 4.3ghz. And a hyper 212evo is put more to its limit at those temps, this is where the 10$ gives you better temps, and quieter operation.

Yea don't worry. you could spend 1/2 your budget and make a PC that runs better than consoles.

Anyway to touch on your build...

4690k is a great CPU choice for gaming only, if you are wanting to stream and other stuff, I recommend upgrading to an i7, and while the i5 CAN do streaming, the i7s just have an easier time doing it.

Your cooler choice is great for the 4690k, you won't have issues, just throw that thought out of your head. :)

Now... your motherboard, imo is lacking some features you may wish later down the road you wish you would have had. So I upgraded you to a more expensive motherboard. It has better overclockability because of the extra heat spreaders, and it has built in 7.1 audio with optical audio out as well. (of course if you are using a usb headset it doesnt matter much.)

Your ram choice is fine, but I changed it to something cheaper and matches the blue motherboard.

ssd is prefect

hdd is fine

I changed the GPU just to match your other components, and it's a tad cheaper, you won't noticed the performance difference. :)

Your case choice is great for silent computer operations. it is known to be the quietest case, I picked something else that shows off the inside of the computer, and has blue leds to help the overall theme. if you are going for silent operation... keep the Fractal Design R5. either way it's going to be quieter than consoles.

I picked out a reliable PSU for ya.

I see you went with the Corsair K70, i recommend looking up the Corsair Strafe RGB it has Cherry MX Silent switches. They perform just like Reds but are much quieter. (from what i've heard.)

anyways. enjoy

Will definitely consider this, one question though:

Are there any other things that the Strafe is better than the K70? Consider me picky but I don't like the letter font on the Strafe :P

Reading reviews and YouTube comments isn't getting me far either because both sides have good arguments and every discussion mostly goes off-topic.

If you live in a small town or village and power cut outs or fluctuations tend to happen you will not regret buying it.

I live in a dense city that is pretty close to the capital and other big cities, I think I don't need it :)

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant or something I don't mean to say it like that.

The K70 is made out of better material imo. it has a metal body, while the strafe has plastic.

The K70 has volume rocker, and other extra buttons the strafe doesn't.

The Strafe is more quiet than the K70.

those are the only things that I can tell.

I'm personally waiting for the Silent switches to be put on a different product by corsair.

Some people don't care about those missing buttons, but I already have a keyboard that has them, so I'm spoiled at this point.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've watched this video

review

and I think I think I'm going with the Strafe! Although it's a bummer that it's more made of plastic though but the USB and better lights made me choose this decision!

Thanks again! :)
