Core i5-4590, is it ok?

Hey Guys, im thinking about changing my cpu (FX 8350) to an Intel one.

So while searching in Amazon Mexico i came to a Core i5-4590 wich cost 3500 pesos (around 211 dls) and a Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 that cost 1439 pesos (around 87 dls).

Is it worth it? i only got 5000 pesos (like 300 dls) to spend on both cpu and motherboard.

My actual specs:

PNY GTX 960 4GB

FX 8350

Corsair 8gb Ram

Corsair CX-600m

Cooler Master N300

So what do you think, should i buy it?

it's a great CPU if you're using it for gaming. i used to have an i5 4670k and it was great. i assume you won't be doing any overclocking since you're looking at the 4690 and not the 4690k? either way, it's a solid processor. if you're a video editor or use alot of 3D applications, an i7 would be the way to go. if not, an i5 is perfect.

If you're not overclocking, the i5-4460 is usually cheaper and pretty much the same thing as the 4590.

I checked and i save like 15 bucks i've never overclocked and dont intend to do soon, so it would be a better deal? and what about the motherboard?

with streaming games, do you mean using things like Steam Home Streaming? because i do that a lot, i dont render a lot, but i do use Photoshop and Premier for casual editing.

So should i get the i5 4460?

the 4590 has a 300 Mhz higher boost clock and is 10$ more expensive, you choose :)

It would be a better deal, and you could probably put the extra $15 into something else

it's better than the FX-8350 in games but not enough to justify the upgrade...save some more money until you can afford an unlocked i7.

Also, your GPU need an upgrade more than your CPU actually.

With a GTX 960 the CPU upgrade is worthless because the FX is already maxing it in games.

:)

of course we do...check benchmarks for the most recent games such as the witcher 3, or fallout 4 or battlefront for example...the FX is actualy pretty close to locked core i5 in such games...multi-threaded optimisation is in FULL force right now...i would NOT upgrade from an FX-83XX at this point...i did upgraded mine and i DID got better performance with an unlocked core i7...but the locked i5 are PINNED across the board in syndicate and it DOES hurt the performance a lot...check Joker's production review he tested a 4.9GHZ SKYLAKE i5-6600K and EVEN THAT was struggling real hard ;)

FX master race :D

no i wouldnt go that far though...the IPC is still very low, and it WILL struggle to hit 60FPS in some games...if you play other lesser optimised titles it CAN and WILL be a limitation...but not with a GTX 960 :P

i remember playing hitman:absolution on my overclocked to 4.6ghz FX-8320 and it was struggling to hold 50FPS...even at 720p with a GTX780...same for dying light for example...or any assassin's creed previous to ACU. many other games i've tested also ran like poop on it. it,s not perfect but the i5-4590 isnt either.

multimedia power house it is though...at 4.6ghz my FX was rendering videos pretty much as fast as my 4.2ghz 4770k...not quite, but almost :)

multitasking is a blast on them for sure.

I would honestly stick with the 8350. If you were upgrading something like a 4690K, 4790K, or 5820K, then I'd say go for it.

Are you running your chip overclocked? If not, I would definitely say overclock your chip for some extra performance. However, make sure you have a decent motherboard, as the FX-series boards will need a high end 970 or 990FX chipset for a stable overclock.

with that gpu I wouldn't upgrade to an i5. I would leave it how it is, because you will have to pay more then it would be necessary for the performance gains. I would get a cpu cooler and a better graphics card with that money, and overclock the 8350.

Your 8350 is perfectly fine with your 960. Wait until you can do a large upgrade to something like an i7 4xxx, 5xxx or 6xxx. Same goes with moving from an FX 6300 to i3, it is not worth it yet people do it.
