Feasibility of an Acrylic Case

ProGearUk
Does anybody know a place in the UK where I can get a PCI backplate type thing to support my GPU.

Maybe you could buy a cheap case, paint the inside, and then cut out the parts from it that you need.

Ye I could. I have an old matx case that came with an old HP computer but I will probably need a dremel to get it out so may be difficult. I could always just experiment with metal bars like on test benches because I have a dead motherboard and dead WiFi card that could be templates for the screw holes and the height of the PCI slot as well as the positioning.

I think I will just buy a premade tax size motherboard try a made from acrylic and then I will test fit it with the help of the dead components and then I will use stuff like the HDD bays to help support the motherboard. I want the motherboard tray to be removable so that I can put all of my components that go under the board in first like the HDD and the sad and PSU and stuff like that and have those in there supporting the weight of the motherboard as well

I think I will do a video build log that will also act as a guide.

There's a man on youtube who used to make some pretty awesome cases out of acrylic perhaps taking a look at his creations may give you some inspiration or help you figure out some things you'd like to do for your build, here's his channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/EpicPcCases . He's pretty professional, he cuts the 6mm thick acrylic with a CNC machine and then uses weld-on and socket head screws to put it together. Good luck!
