R9 390 vs GTX 970 (2560x1080)

As far as I can tell the R9 390 performs better than the 970 most of the time, but I have no idea if my ultra-wide monitor will make a difference in the results. Im thinking about upgrading from my GTX 760 but cant decide on what to choose since these two are so close. Ive heard that the 970 has better drivers and runs cooler and quieter. On the other hand the 390 has much more vram and performs better on average. I want to play games at 60fps/high-ultra with my current resolution.

Also, would more expensive cards be worth the $100-150ish jump for what im trying to achieve? (GTX 980, 390x)

Additional Info:

Processor: Intel i5-4690K (3.5ghz)

Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI PLUS (MS-7930)

Memory: Corsair 2x4 DDR3

Games I play/plan on getting: BF4, Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor, Farcry 4, Civ 5, Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4, GTA V, Rust, and ARK.

Check if you can find a 290X for the same price, it's a bit more powerful than a 390 which is better than a 970, if not, then get a 390

This ^^^

It is your best bet, and I know that AMD generally does better at higher resolutions, so yeah... Go with the 390.
