My co-worker has a gaming PC that he doesnt use at all that he wants to sell and it has a i5-2500k in it , i dont think it was overclocked and it has an Corsair AIO in it. What gpu would this CPU bottleneck? What could it handle?

I used that CPU way back with an R9 290. Also, if you're lucky and you have a good chip that CPU overclocks like a f**king beast. I had mine running on 4.9GHz EZ PZ.

The Beast: CPU: i7 4790K GPU: EVGA 1080 SC Cooling: Dual NZXT Kraken x61 RAM: HyperX Fury 1866MHz Storage: SSD: 500GB Samsung EVO 840 + HDD: 1TB WD MOBO: Asus Z97 - a PSU: RM850x Case: H440 green-black Setup: Link PCPP: Link Evolution: Link

Gear: PS4 with custom skin // Astro A50 Xbox edition to fit colour scheme // Oppo PM-3 Planar Magnetic Closed Back Headphones // OnePlus One 64GB sandstone

Other stuffs: Acer aspire 128GB SSD 10GB RAM // MacBook Pro 13" 500GB SSD 16GB RAM // A 2009 iMac 21"

One of my friends still runs one of these with a 7970 and in BF etc he still gets more than enough FPS.

"Worth it" is both a relative term, and one that we can't answer without knowing cost. If he wants $1,000? Then no, it's not worth it.

it'll handle anything up to a 980 no problem. how much is he selling it for?

He wants to sell me a whole system with that in it , a corsair 700w psu , corsair AIO and that cpu , 8 gigs of ram and a monitor and were not sure of the gpu yet but all for about $600 , he is willing to go lower too.

if the GPU is decent, that sounds like a good deal.

For most games its more GPU bound, so that CPU would be more than enough! :)

390x, 980ti or a Fury X would be happy with it :)

Anything beyond a 980ti is pushing it :P

what's beyond a 980ti that isn't dual GPU? :P

sounds like a pretty good deal honestly if you don't have anything and start from scratch it's a good starter for sure that CPU is a powerful quad core chip and will do wonders in games if paired with a good GPU...if you game at 1080p a GTX 970 or an R9 390 would be good if you buy new...used you could look for GTX 780/780ti or radeon R9 290/290X some of them go for pretty cheap...maybe you already have something that can drive games at 1080p in there as well or something you could sell to get money toward one of these modern GPU's.

What motherboard is in there?

It will handle anything just fine

I suppose a watercooled titan x would qualify

Except the 980ti overclocked is generally the same, if not better than the Titan x on water

if you overclock both at the same level the titan x is faster - watercooling might allow you to do that

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
