So, on speedtest.net my mac gets 30mbps down, while my PC only gets 10mbps down.

They are about 5 feet apart on my desk, so I'm wondering what it is that could be causing this, and is there anything I can get to increase my wifi?

Edit: I also noticed that posititioning of my PC makes a big difference. Can I get extender cables for my wifi adapter? I have three antennae

Can't, at a cost perspective it's not worth it.

If its a mac laptop, I know from experience that those cards have outstanding range (Mine being able to reach through 3 floors and a metal beam and still playing video. So I would look into the wireless card in the PC. Any idea what it is?

Currently not looking for a large antennae, but a cable so I can place my antennae so they face the router without having to turn my pc so all I see is the back IO

How do those even work? Isn't it essentially just a wireless to wired adapter?

It uses the electrical wiring in your home to transfer data like an ethernet cable. I use them, and they work great. You place one in the wall and plug it into your router with ethernet, and place the second one near whatever you want to plug in, and connect it with ethernet.

no need to lay cable

Moving the antennae you have now won't make that much of a difference since they are omnidirectional, meaning that they send/receive frequency in all direction no matter which way they face. Moving them closer to the router with a cable would work, but then you'd have a cable with antennae dangling off it somewhere.

So would I have to connect my router to my power system..?

I'd use it I just don't know how I could set it up.

I was able to get an extra 5 mbps when I moved them.

Moving it closer works, but orientation doesn't matter. You said you wanted to point them at your router, so I was just making sure you knew that wouldn't matter. You could buy an extension and move the antennae closer, but you would have to deal with even more cables.

So would I have to connect my router to my power system..?

I'd use it I just don't know how I could set it up.

This is kind of how it goes:

Powerline adapter 1: You plug it into the power outlet on a wall near your router. You then connect an ethernet cable from the powerline adapter to your router.

Powerline adapter 2: You plug it into a power outlet near your PC. You then connect an ethernet cable from the powerline adapter to your PC.

After that, it will work like a wired connection.

So let me get this straight..

I plug the first box into any power outlet near the router, and connect ethernet to that.

And then I plug the second box into any power outlet near my pc, and then plug my pc ethernet into that.

Also, would it work if I used this with a power strip?

That is correct. And it acts like an ethernet cable would.

And

A lot of people say not to plug it into a power strip because the circuits in it could degrade or damage the quality of the powerline signal, but I have used mine on power strips before with no problems, so I would get more opinions from people on the forum.

yep

and yes to the powerbar...IF it doesn't do any power filtering

should also mention

powerline adapters only work well on good modern copper wiring

only real way to test tho it to buy them and test out the signal

You need either a SMA or SMA-RP extension cable, this chart will help you figure out which you have. Note how the center pin is different. SMA-RP is the most common on routers from my experience.
