PSU For dual 970's

Go to solution Solved by Whorax,

I'd personally get an EVGA G2 750W. It's what I have in my system now and it's what I used when I had SLI 970s.

It might be enough, I'd recommend a 750W one for more headroom though.

It's a mediocre PSU - wattage might be enough but I'd look at either a better quality one or a higher wattage one

I would go a bit higher, I'm using my CX750M and my PC shuts off sometimes and I don't have any overclocks, could be the shitty CX series, but could be I need more power. My RM850x is on the way! (Which is what I would go for)

i suggest at least a 750W. i run two 980s in SLI and i'm pushing it with my 750W, but that's because my CPU is an fx-9590

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Been thinking about getting another 970 (2 in total) with my i7 4790k (OC'd to 4.5) but i'm not sure if this one is big enough:

Cooler Master G650M (650W)

If you know please tell :)

Why not sell your current 970 and put that money towards a 980ti?

650W would be adequate, 750W is recommended. A 970 SLI + i7-4790k system uses around 480W if I'm not mistaken, so it would run on the power supply but you'd exceed the recommended loads to maintain efficiency in some situations.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

I'm 100% certain it's the quality of the CX series that's shit, not the wattage ^^ 750W is plenty for a 970 SLI. My dad's running a Be Quiet! PowerZone 750W PSU with a 970 SLI. A great PSU imo.

Figured that, but I upped the wattage of my new one anyway, just to be safe and I would be able to upgrade in the future. My PC turns off by itself about 4 times a day, but then again I'm now doing F@H which also puts a toll on the garbage PSU already.
