So I was thinking about buying a gtx 590 but there are some things I need out of it. Will it have these things?

1. Will last at least 4 years

2. Can play bf4 at at least 45-50 fps or more

3. Supports current nvidia drivers

4. Can do 2 way sli

5. at least 3gb of ram

6. can be slightly overclocked

4. sure

5. I think (not 100% sure) that it in total has 3 GB of VRAM, but that's for both GPUs. Only 1.5GB will be usable.

6. sure

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

As a Person who ran a GTX 590 :D In her old system (GTX 590 + i7 3770K at stock With Windows 7) before PSU shenanigans (afterwords i was running my 4820K with my HD 7950 which ran a lot better)

1 Likely not, The 1.5gb Vram cap will hurt the card.

2 Benchmarks im reading at 1080P says the 590 could do 45-55fps on BF4.

3 I think they still roll out nvidia drivers for it, i would get the latest one.

4 590 is a Dual 580 on one card, so it's already SLI, but 2 590's would be 4 way sli and i wouldn't recommend that, plus you probably could afford a 980ti with the cost of both cards + something like an AX1500i to power them.

5 it's 1.5gb vram for each GPU, the 3gb is a good marketing thing that they do for dual cards.

6 GTX 590 without a fancy cooling solution would be the utterly last card i would ever consider overclocking, when i had mine running at stock (around 650Mhz on each core) i was getting well into the 90C's with it.

if i can make a recommendation, i would go for a HD 7970/7950 instead, personally i found it has nearish 590 performance but without all the drawbacks, or if you can stretch go for a Used R9 290.

Then again i found the 590 to be a pretty unique card to have in a build. but it is quite a hassle to live with...so i'd definately wouldn't use it in a everyday Gaming/Workstation PC but for a PC to build just for playing about with or just trying something different, yeah :).

1. Probably but not as a card to play trip-As

2. Easily but you'll cap your VRAM fast with good textures.

3. Yes and probably will do for a couple more years.

4. Yes if you dont mind lots of noise, heat and high power consumption.

5. It is 1.5Gb per GPU so it isn't truly a 3gb card

6. Slightly..

1. Well that's more unpredictable than the durability of a relationship....''IT DEPENDS"

2. Yes, considering that you have a decent setup, you can even get more than 60 fps in 1080p at medium to high settings.

3. Yes, its driver support is still pretty OK.

4.  Since its a dual gpu so its basically already in two-way sli, but if you mean to use two 590s in sli, than that would be quad-sli and yes it will support but your heat  and noise output will be significantly high.

5. It has a total of 3gb(1.5gb per gpu) but only 1.5gb effective.

6. Dual gpu cards from NVIDIA are underclocked and are supposed to be fixed at the same clock speed but you can overclock in a non-reference card. BUT I    WOULD STRONGLY  RECOMMEND YOU NOT TO DO IT because that might significantly reduce the life span of the card.

giphy.gif

Pretty sure that cooler was on the 480, not the 580.

The 500 series was also fermi but sacrificed some compute performance, and also ECC VRAM, in favor of improved power consumption, thermals and roughly similar graphics performance.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

That's true but reviewers at the time rated it better then the 6990. That had a centrifugal blower which was much louder. nVidia had been using axial fans since the GTX 295 single board edition.

1. depends on how much you're willing to lower settings over the years

2. idk

3. It does

4. The 590 is a dual GPU card meaning that there are two GPU's on one PCB. this means that the 590 is already running in two way SLI. Adding another card would be running four way SLI and while it is supported it's no recommended.

5.  There is a total of 3GB of VRAM on the PCB but it is split between each GPU, this means that you only have 1.5GB of VRAM that is usable. Generally speaking 1.5GB of VRAM is not enough for 1080p.

6. This depends on the silicon lottery, there are cards that overclock there are cards that overclock well and there are cards that will not overclock. It is simply luck of the draw.
