Please Explain Amd Gpu's

MrIceCremeLollipop

R9 is the higher end gaming GPUs. The "x" version of a card is about 5-10% better than the non "x" version. There is no R9 295, but there is a R9 285. The 285 was similar in performance to a R9 280, but used a new chip and was more power efficient. The R9 380 is a refresh of the R9 285.

295x2 which is what they were most likely referring to.

AMD gpus will sometimes out perform nvidia cards by 5-10% depending on the card. The 960 4gb gets beaten by the 380 4gb for the same price and sometimes cheaper. If you can find a high 200 series card like the 290 or the 285 for cheaper, get those instead of buying the new 300 series because the 300 series is basically just more vram and slightly better performance.

The 390 is actually better than the 290X in a lot of benchmarks.

is it? I was lead to believe if you OC the 290X and 390 the 290X pulls ahead or at least equals out.

Everyone is liking my post, I googled this super fast. Before making that post, I knew nothing about AMD cards.

And even still I don't like AMD cards or their power bill lol.

Fun fact: At idle, AMD consume 0 Watts since their cards turn off completely whereas Nvidia consume about 20-30W making up the load consumption as most PCs spend 3/4 of the time idling. #TheMoreYouKnow

Still probably uses less power even though it doesn't turn off.

Well, under load a 380 uses 10W more than a 960 and a 390 uses 70-80W more than a 970 - a Nano uses LESS power than a 980 and performs better whereas a Fury/Fury X use about 50W more than a 980 Ti. You can't really make a GPU as efficient as you believe. At most, if you spend all your time mining for bitcoin, you'll end up with a 20$ increase per year. If you, like any reasonable individual, game for 5 hours a day, you'll raise your power bill by a whole 4$. DAT POWER BILL!
