How many Watts for 2 GTX 960s

dual GPU CARDS have cherry-picked GPUs that uses less voltage, thus creates far less heat.

 

yes my system, with an overclocked i7 4790k + overclocked R9 295x2 (dual R9 290X card) hits around 735w around max according to Corsair Link.

 

On the flip side, a single 390x CAN hit 500w in Furmark, because the single 390X doesnt have a 75c thermal limit, nor a power limit like the R9 295x2 does.

 

Either way, if you plan to do high end AMD CF, i wouldnt reccomend anything less then a Corsair AX1200i. Because not only will the GPUs use A LOT of power, but also, you must consider other components and the POTENTIAL for other components...

 

With most Platinum grade PSUs, even low 10% power draw performance is pretty darn good, efficiency wise...

Stop talking out of your ass. My i5-4430 and both of my 960's at 1600Mhz 1.256v use less than 350w. I would say that 500w from quality PSU would be plenty of juice for an FX chip and two 960's.

Welp - Not sure where you got your numbers from but a R9 295x2 system (which uses about the same power as 390CF) pulls about 740W under absolute max load. Ask @Prysin

As @Prysin said. The guy literally was having his 850W psu trip and shutdown his system (which was sad because he only bought the 850W because people mistakenly said it would be enough). Now if the psu didn't trip on transient overpower (as many don't...) then he probably would have been ok-ish (I mean he still would want to replace his psu soon, but he could still use it) because it was only peaking that high.

What PSU is that? I'm really having a hard time picturing a 390 using 500W mainly because there is no such thing unless you start modding the Bios.

390X can use over 500w in furmark...

390 tops out at 430-460w in Furmark depending on GPU/brand....

If I remember correctly it was a 850 g2. I'd have to go back and look for the thread to make certain though.

390X can use over 500w in furmark...

Furmark is a power virus - not representative of anything realistic.

well, their tests in Crysis 3 were quite close to Furmark numbers... but then again... "can it run Crysis?"

I've seen benches where a 760's power draw literally doubles in Furmark and Kombustor - those programmes aren't reliable.

go near the bottom to watch the power draw.... yes a 390X CAN be that bad.... they dont have a 390 there (due to power improvements with the 300 series, we cannot use the 290 to show an accurate wattage instead of using a 390)

That's total system - factor our 120W for the CPU, drives, RAM and fans. - 390X pulls about 350W in Crysis 3 which sounds a lot more reasonable.

no test-bench hits 120w without GPU.

 

Every test bench has a single 120mm AIO, ONE SSD..... a test bench pulling over 100w at idle without any GPU installed in the PCIe should be rethinked

Not idle - full load - Crysis 3 pushes the CPU as well.

the just do the skybox test.... s CPU isnt loaded up that much really.

Really? Cause most people (except Linus) that i've seen use the area from the demo where you ride a train with Psycho - that has a lot of explosions and such

750W is fine for 970 SLI and 390 CF as well - a 970 uses only about 80W less than a 390. It's not as big of a difference as marketing makes it out to be.

I remember the olt 280x and 290x needed a min of 1000W....
