4790k or 5830k

Hi Guys,

Typical question here, but what cpu should I go for? considering my load includes gaming, Video editing, But also work work which is web design (Design work, Debugging etc) going for a 980ti strix for graphics.

What is best for me, also how many gpus can the 4790k have???

Many thanks

5830k doesnt exist

either 5820k or 5930k

if you plan on having 3+ GPUs then go with the 5820k

well, 5930k has more lanes, more cores, but a lower clock, worse for gaming but better for video editing

EDIT: also Haswell-E has a much higher cost, for RAM, MoBo, CPU, etc.

Realistically the 4790k. I went X99 just because I could. Not because it was a good choice.

What rig have you got?? out of interest?

its a k cpu so you can overclock it to a higher clock speed

I dont see the use of having the 5930k single GPU's are becomming the thing SLI is more like extreme overboard stuff or some jerk that just wants to get something in SLI for the looks or just want to bake some eggs...

Hi, as i see you have the 6700k which has 16 lanes (correct me if wrong) how many gpu's can this handle?? thanks

2 GPU's 8x 8x depends on the PCIE gen & CPU if you have more lanes it will run at a higher band but dont worry too much as it doesnt bottleneck anything thats just how the motherboards & CPU's handle at the moment we'll just to kinda wait for newer GPU's en PCIE 4.0 but i'm not too worried about it there is still enough breating room in the current bandwidth

(I think you can run 4x 4x with some AMD cards i would not recommend it for newer cards i dont know much about PCIE bandwidth)

Two GPUs. But if you want a soundcard or PCIe SSD, you'll need to opt for an X99 CPU.

its a k cpu so you can overclock it to a higher clock speed

but the 4790k has been known to hit 5 GHz, which has never happened on any Haswell-E processor

You could have 3 with no other PCIe cards. At 8x 4x and 4x.

well, 1 GPU at max or 2 at less, and anything from sound cards to RAID cards to PCIe SSDs to even wireless adapters are gonna take a lane or 2

but ideally you have them running at x16, which is the benefit to the higher end Haswell-E (5960x has 40 lanes, which is enough for 2 GPUs at full output and a PCIe SSD)

I see what you mean, sound card isn't a big deal to me any decent motherboard has pretty good inbuilt sound i feel personally, PCIe SSD is a possibility, is 40 lanes a reasonably new thing or shall i say limited to few CPU's?

But x16 isn't essiential yet as most gpus will run the same at x8, is that right?
