I want a good dash cam. It's long overdue

Syntaxvgm

For like the millionth time I almost demolished a pedestrianed the other day. Jumped right in front of my car and yet again my razor sharp reaction time (which I've been complimented on multiple times, idk how I get so lucky) and good brake pads saved the day. (The look of 'I fucked up' on their face I will never forget)

Hell just a few weeks ago a cop car (county I think, brown dodge charger) blew a red light on a side street with his lights off and I almost Tboned him.

A few months ago a small  Uhaul truck with a trailer turned from a middle lane of a 4 lane road into a parking lot, running me off the road.

Tons of examples, more I can't even remember, of close calls. And after some people I know having their asses saved from having a dash cam, I think spending a bit on a camera would be worth it.

I don't know what I want, and I would like under 100$. I mean I can go above but only if it's truly worth it.

I want something reliable, and something with removable media I can back up elsewhere if needed.

I'll be getting it in maybe a week, maybe earlier, I need to fix the cigarette lighter, it looses power when you wiggle it, never bothered me but that's not a good thing with a  camera.

But anyway I would like suggestions. Something I can set and forget until I need it.

I went with the KEHAN KH903-50VP and I have zero complaints on it, but it is about a hundred more dollars than you wanted to spend.  I'd say you probably don't wanna skimp on quality when it comes to this type of thing though.  I commend you on getting one too by the way, in today's world they're damn near a necessity if you want to protect yourself legally.

Oh signature time!  It's on now, gonna give ya somethin snarky and clever and think way too hard about this because I'm really concerned about what people on the internet think of me.  Better google some good quotes to put in here too.....oh wait I'm not a loser.

It still requires manually having to manage it, and if you forget one day and you crash, then theres no point having the camera there at all

Ahhh Techmoan, where I got all my info from last time.

A good place to start too to compare the cheap and nasty (actually quite a few come out well from it) to the extremely expensive all singing all dancing. Also points out regularly (and correctly) that any that have "IR" night lights, are crap, useless, waste of space, a con.

A few factors to consider are the likes of removability as its another piece of tech in the car some one might like to pinch, how much space that mounting hardware takes up (important if you want it out of site behind the rear view mirror for example), battery life in some cases if you want it working when away from the car, ease of wiring, and other "fitting" technicalities.

Then there is also the types of roads you drive on, the types of conditions. An example being I live in a rural area, unlit, and very little light pollution that makes for great vistas of the starry sky but is a nightmare for cameras that have to pull a lot of data from very little (most are unable to see the deer that frequently play chicken jumping out infront of the car). And there are issues with daylight too that are common for all cameras, like a white sky throwing the exposure out a lot and making all the detail on the ground "black out" as it were.

All answered on Techmoan which is great for more than a few :)

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!

Hey I have been using dashcams for a while. Good thing to have, and i can say there nothing better than a go pro as you dashcam. It is worth it. You just have to set it up. Get a go pro hero 3+ black edition. This is an older model it will be cheaper but video is excellent and it can be set up as a dash cam. Also you could take it out of the car make cool high quality videos. Only downside is no screen. Go pro hero is cheaper but quite good and hero 4 silver is expensive but excellent and has a screen. I've had experience with other dashcams and no come close in terms of footage quality. And being a superb action cam does not make it worse. IMHO its well worth the fuss and money
