I personally prefer WD for most builds, but if I'm on a budget I don't say no to a good old Barracuda.

you got lucky 3TB seagate hard drives have like almost a 50% fail rate

You can't expect a product to have a 50% fail rate and the company that made it to still exist.

Anyway , the WD Black comes with 5 years of warranty.

You should take that into consideration.

Out of the two? WD.

Frankly I wouldn't touch either unless you get a good deal on the black.

The barracuda has a 1 year warranty, that alone should turn you away, it's industry code for "we're not confident about this product".

The WD black? That just has a bit of a price tag to it.

Personally, I'd look into a WD Blue or a Toshiba DT01ACA100 since they tend to be around the same price as the barracuda.

Barracudas have a 2 or 3 year warranty. Seagate stopped selling HDDs with 1 year warranty a while ago.

Blacks cost more just because of the warranty, they are not better drives.

If OP wants a 1TB drive - Barracuda, WD Blue and Toshiba DT01ACA100 are good choices since there's always a gamble involved with hard drives anyway.

High speed HDD (10k rpm) are not worth it any more either go with WD Blue, Samsung or go the way of SSD if you want the speed factor. The higher speed is less life span due to the constant speed ramping causing undue vibrations shortening the lifespan of the drive. This has always been an issue that WD has taken a better job dealing with but you still better off with an SSD.

Just an FYI, blacks are not 10k rpm drives. That would be velociraptors. WD black hdds are still 7200 rpm, bit they are on the upper scale performance wise for what a 7200 rpm drive can do. They are also more reliable, as reflects the 5 year warranty.

For the OP: We need more info. The two hdds you have chosen are so vastly different, for different usage scenarios.

Tell us what you'll be using the drives for. What programs - if any - what files, how much will you use it, etc.

What is most important to you? Speed? Reliability? Low cost? Peace of mind with a long warranty?

Otherwise this will just turn into a fan boy flame war.
