WD-40 for bike chain?

z123killer

WD-40 is a penetrating fluid. Not lubrication.

There are cans of multilube you could pick up. And specialized "Bicycle chain oil"

Umm that would probably work but a bit more generic than what I would like, something like this below would be better. In general most chains aren't really picky especially for a regular bike I've even used synthetic engine oil when I didn't have any on hand but it tends to pickup a lot of dirt and dust.

Yeah it will work but it won't last as long as proper solutions, it will also likely flick onto your clothes / leg as you cycle. I've done it before when I ran out of proper stuff and used it my bike on a wet rainy day.

You can but it would evaporate instantly after riding (chain obvs gets friction which will make the evaporation process that much quicker).

What's more expensive? an $8 can of chain lube or hundreds for chain+sprockets (assuming motorbike, either way its expensive)?

Scrapyard Build Total Cost: $268AUD
