Rest in peace to the poor thing. It sounds like it served your PC well, considering my SSD went out four months in.

my server - which was a 10 year old workstation repurposed - caught fire while downloading an 8GB file, it finished the download, and i decided to put it out its misery.

That drive looks ancient (older than 10 years)! Shame they don't build them to that standard any more :(

Yep, it's quite old and a tough one i would say.Is not my main drive, but it has been used for minor things like game storrage or torrents download every day since.

Who doesn't have at least 1 file of porn on their HDD nowadays?

Sad to see the drive spin its last...

How do you plan on disposing of it?

I had an SSD fail on me once. It was a sad story because I knew that even professional repair was not option, and it had quite a lot of pictures and development projects from many years ago which would have been nice to keep. There was little indication too, they generally have a good lifetime, but this was the says where a 32GB SSD was expensive and considered really high end. (~2009)

My saddest tech related loss is when the age of empires 2 disc i'd kept in good condition since 2002 was returned to me after a friend had borrowed it.

Scratched to hell..
