Why Do Graphics Cards Cost A Lot?

Hi all im just wondering why GPU's cost so much? Like what parts and procedures make them worth so much?

A graphics card is a computer. Almost. It doesn't just have a processor, it has RAM and all that stuff as well. It's no more expensive to produce in terms of material cost than a motherboard. But a GPU has the motherboard, processor and RAM

Because it takes alot of RND and you have to pay people( they revolt if you dont) there equipment is expensive and components are expensive.

A gpu is just like a cpu but with different architecture...

I said it doesn't just have the processor, inferring that it has the processor plus more. As I go onto explain by stating it has RAM. Also if you notice my last sentence I clearly explain that it has a processor. It's stated very clearly. Obviously it has a processor due to what GPU stands for

No. A GPU does not have a motherboard. It is simply called a PCB. Doesn't have a special name.

The reason why graphics cards cost a lot is because of the research and development (R&D) that goes into developing the card as well as the drivers and software for it. As mentioned before the graphics card is also a rather complicated component that is made up of various bits such as GPU, VRAM, power delievery components ect... and in a way it is like a motherboard because it houses many components on the PCB... it also has a built in cooling system made up of heatsinks, heatpipes and fans all these things add up to the cost of product.

I despise the phrase "weak core" because it insinuates that the "core" isn't doing its job as well as intended, which in the case of a GPU isn't true.

Engineers and staff that need paying to design and oversee production, expensive machines need buying, tooling, purchase and upkeep of premises to manufacture, marketing, distribution, research, imperfect yield, constant cycle of line redundancy, taxation and importation duties to name a few reasons.

 

Also they are businesses and do operate to make a profit ;)
