Good Afternoon esteemed forum

Im 15 years (34) removed from PC Gaming.  I have gotten back into it, but playing games such as Witcher 3, Batman, Battlefield 4 have been very overwhelming.   I bought a Logitech G13 in the theory that I could program quick action buttons to make it easier to remember what does what.

Keeping my large learning curve in gaming in mind, what is an efficient way of displaying / remembering game keyboard shortcuts?

Witcher 3 is fairly intuitive, alt for dodge, space for rolling. I use mouse button scroll for quen axii yrden and so on. I guess you could just keep looking at the key bindings on the settings menu, it should just come naturally just give it time.

For witcher 3 type of games I find using a controller much better.

OT: just kep using the keys like people said or remap the keys to your prefrence.

I think no matter how much you game, there'll always be titles with controls that you'll just have to get used to (MGS5 on keyboard, looking at you).

I would suggest trying out different input methods first to see what comes more naturally. If the game allows it, you can alway rebind keyboard keys to ones that feel more to your tastes.

You could set up a second monitor with the keys displayed on it, but I suggest just playing and learning. Check in with the controls menu whenever you're stuck and otherwise press on.

I hope you've enjoyed your return to gaming :]

Print some A4 sheets of keyboard layout and mark on keys with colors what does what. Thats how I tried to learn flying with controller. For FPS games, you might want to try some simple one first. BF4 requires quite many keys and functions differ per vehichle. So something like TF2 is easy first step. After that you have basic keys in mind and can add more actions.

My whole FPS key arrangement is based on BF2 key layout. I change keys to match that. So when I played CoD4, I had nade throw mapped to 3 and smoke on V (C is key for push-to-talk).

Can always play with a 360 pad, I played GTA V and I am currently playing MGS V  with a 360 pad

FPS games I use keyboard and mouse for but really almost all games use the same controls so you get used to them quickly

  • 2 weeks later...

I've struggled with pressing 1, 2, 3 and 4 in games, I usually have to look. Then I bought the phantom pain which seriously improved the problem I was having.
