PC crashes with colored squares

Go to solution Solved by Virtual01,

Are you overclocking? This has happened to me, but only when I was OCing more than I should have been.

So for the third time in about as many days, my PC crashed. It was the same way each time, with the image on screen freezing but superimposed are these flickering squares. The color of the squares seems to be dependent on what color is on screen. The first two times it happened MGS:V was open so I first assumed it was an issue with the game, but it just now happened again with nothing open but Chrome, BitDefender, ND a few other things. Is this an issue with my GPU? Or do I just need to do a software fix? Thanks.

I attached some photos of the crashes, but I forgot to take a photo of the lost recent one.

I am, but this will change first thing in the morning. I'll try going back to stock speeds, see if that makes a difference. I will report back in 7-8 hours.

Your GPU it's on its last days.

That or you went a little overkill with the overclock.

He has a 980 from what his profile says, Id hope that this is just an OC gone too far considering the 980 isnt an old card.

Still, in electronics being new doesn't mean it will not fail soon.

The stars died for you to be here today.

A locked bathroom in the right place can make all the difference in the world.

This is tru.

I guess we needa wait to see if resetting clockspeeds does the trick ^_^

OK SO: Furmark has been running for about 20 minutes, and everything's fine. I am in fact typing this on the very PC that's been giving me issues. Power has been sticking around 99%, temperature at 75, GPU usage at 99%, and, most importantly, no artifacts. So unless someone says otherwise in the next half hour or so, I'm going to call this issue solved.

That ain't Falco.
