Slow internet at night

Go to solution Solved by d3sl91,

Im kinda getting tired of this because i download most of my games and movies at night

That's probably what everyone else is doing, so, you're neighborhood's speed goes down as availible bandwidth is taken up.

call and complain, maybe they will come out and beef up the gear.

So i only noticed this problem recently and basically at around 830 to 9ish pm my internet speed goes from 50 down 10 up to around 10-15 down 5-7 up. Just to mention i am on Ethernet and my isp is cogeco. Im kinda getting tired of this because i download most of my games and movies at night

Maybe something you have updates every night?

Or that ISP is just shitty and around that time everyone is downloading stuff and that affects you, called peak hour.

Or like in my country, you have a limit you can download per month, but that limit only applies when there are too many people using internet.

Yeah unless something else hogs all the bandwidth on your network at night it's either the network in the area reaching its maximum capacity(possible, unlikely) or your isp throttling speed(much more likely).

Edit: You can't do anything about stuff outside of your own network besides complain to the ISP.

you can try using a vpn like astrill to see if it helps

i have the same problem on verizon around that time when i try to watch anything on twitch or youtube but astrill seems to get around the throttling

Probably scheduled peak-hours and throttling from the ISP.

but why

Less strain on infrastructure, problems with capacity in the backbone, it can be anything.

Something that looks like this is probably being worked on near you ;)

Ah, Transmitter. :)

Yeah, could be the case. He should call and find out (maybe he'll get lucky and not get someone who tells him to just reset his router).
