V650S reliable? (I have it but just checking...)

Hi my main PC has a Cooler Master V650S, 650W PSU which I wonder what tier rank does it have?

 

Edit: If it blow will the stuff in MY PC die? (GPU, RAM, Mobo, CPU & SSDs)

yes it is good and its tier 1, if your unsure about a psu you can always look at the psu tier list in my sig or at @STRMfrmXMN psu whitelist

Most reasonably good quality PSUs have protections that should prevent that from happening, but a PSU failing is already a highly unlucky, unlikely event. So in theory just about any PSU could do that if the right parts were faulty. Hell, there's a guy a few posts down that says his $400 EVGA T2 1600W PSU immediately blew and damaged his motherboard. No one would ever expect that based on the quality of the unit.

 

As far as I know, the Coolermaster V-series is fine and you don't need to worry about any pyrotechnics. At least no more so than anything else.

should clarify the different ways a PSU can die:

 

- it can just "quietly" cut out, causing no other damage

- it can catch fire, but continue to operate just fine (this is my favourite way of them dying, because its quite comical)

- it can lose power on specific connectors, causing your computer to act odd.

- it can short on the 110/220 side, tripping the breaker, causing no damage in the computer.

- it can suddenly rush entirely different voltages into your components, frying them.

 

theres probably a few other ways, but these are the common ones.

combinations are also posible. tripping the breaker usually comes hand in hand with rushing voltages into your other components, this is pretty much the worst case scenario.

While I probably wouldn't call the VSM "tier 1", it's a solid, reliable power supply that you shouldn't need to worry about blowing up.

Same thing. It's called V650S, V650SM, V650 Semi-modular, etc. They are all based on the same Enhance Electronic platform. IIRC, there was an issue with the original naming scheme, as it is similar to the Corsair VS line. That may have something to due to it.

VS, VSM, V Semi-modular are all the same. Just different names. If you look at the internal design of the V650S and V750 Semi-modular, you will see that it is the same internal design.

 

There isn't really anything "newer" about it. Well, initially, they used Taiwanese Teapo electrolytes in 2013, but they had updated to full higher quality Japanese capacitors. Since it's 2015, you should have the updated model.

 

If you're still confused, just forget everything, and trust me when I tell you it's a reliable, quality power supply. lol
