Is A 7870 OverKill?

Go to solution Solved by R4STABAN,

7850/7870 should be a reasonable match for your current config if that's a Q6600 quad core.

You won't be running high or ultra settings in the newest of games, but your cpu will hold you back anyway.

That kind of setup will get you into pc gaming. at the entry-mid end. Depending on what types of games you like to play.

I was thinking about buying one of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202025). But I thought if I really needed that card for a 1240 by 1080 monitor. I trying to get into PC gaming and a my GPU is holding me down. Do I buy this card or buy a 7850 or a 650 ti boost? Thanks for any replies.

I would get the 7870.

I second this^

It should max out pretty much everything at that resolution.

4k... or if you are talking about 1280x1080 if you want to play at over 300FPS.

Of course! I have a 300Hz monitor.

I'd say take that money and upgrade your monitor first, then get a graphics card.

no get it, or at least a 7850, I would get a 660 over a 650ti boost for the extra $20 bucks (you should really get a 2gig card anyway) I had my current build hooked up to a 1280x1024 monitor for awhile and really its not overkill if you want good frames.  it's stil a marginally higher res than 720p.
