Is A 7870 OverKill?

Go to solution Solved by R4STABAN,

7850/7870 should be a reasonable match for your current config if that's a Q6600 quad core.

You won't be running high or ultra settings in the newest of games, but your cpu will hold you back anyway.

That kind of setup will get you into pc gaming. at the entry-mid end. Depending on what types of games you like to play.

You can get a 7950 for $219 after rebate. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but you should really get the best card for your money and at this price a 7950 is a steal.

Even one titan...

(Because of 780)

Unless you are doing surround or eyefinity, gaming because in that case you will need the 6GB vram that the titan has

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Yea i have a HD 7750 on a 1440x900 monitor and the card runs all my games on at least medium settings including planetside 2 and skyrim with 110+ mods on high settings at 50 FPS so if i was in your boat i would personally buy a 7770 or even a 7790 like the guy above me suggests.

i doubt you live in Canada but if you do i can link you a really good deal on a 7790.

(you should really get a 2gig card anyway) I had my current build hooked up to a 1280x1024 monitor for awhile and really its not overkill if you want good frames.  it's stil a marginally higher res than 720p.

I really doubt 2 gigs of ram is gonna do you any good on a monitor of that resolution.

its not all bout vram, you want a good gpu,  1280x1024  is a decent res, if frames and settings are what he wants, hes going to want a 7850/70

low your res in crysis or bf3 or i donno..,far cry 3 and see if your gpu is 99% used. so yeah. in another topic he said he will not change the monitor.the 7850 or 7870 is overkill. but now he changed his mind but it will be a limitation from the cpu anyways

With a monitor like his he will be able to run any game over 50fps easy. if he gets a better monitor then it could be a different story. Its not an entry setup, thats more of a medium setup. Entry is the gtx 650 or 7770 level. That setup of his is about the same as mine and at 1080p far cry 3 runs at 40fps maxed. I wanna test crysis 3 but thats basically a waste of money.
