390X: XFX or MSI

The Black Edition is the same price as the MSI variant. I don't care for performance of the two, as they are both the same chip and if they were to be clocked the same, they would perform the same(MSI 390X is about 20MHz higher than the XFX.)

What I care about is cooling. I've seen a lot of bad things for the MSI, but it's quiet, and apparently the XFX one is so-so.

What are your experiences?

I personally prefer MSI, my motherboard and old 6850 was from them and they both were great!

Meh, a backplate isn't a deal-break for me personally. But you ain't gonna beat the cooling performance of the Vapor-X cooler they have. Unless you go water cooling ofc.

 

But i'd pick XFX over MSI.

Also is there no Sapphire there? Those Nitro cards are very 1337!

What I've noticed though, is that XFX seems to have way better core temps. Judging from all the people I know who have an MSI 390X.

They're all about the same, increase fan speed on the Msi card and it'll be cool as well.

I have xfx 390, my temps don't go above 63c while at full load. Great card for the price, picked it up for £30 less the the one from msi.

Sapphire posted this on their facebook page a few days ago .. R9 390 Nitro with a backplate really , and like a factory OC ? ( 1040mhz ) 

 

By the looks of it , also helps to cool the back of the PCB and some cutouts too

Sapphire probably realised there ain't much to be gained from the x version. Its certainly worse price per performance than the non x anyway

Also, I spoke to Ed on twitter, the PR for Sapphire. He asked why I got the XFX 390X instead of the Sapphire. I said purely because of backplate. He said he'll see what he can do... I'm assuming they'll make backplates for the 390X as well thanks to that tweet. I'll wait 2 weeks.

I know they are a good brand cause everyone voices for them but every MSI card or mobo I've had has died on me within a year. Like I said, just bad luck...but fuck lol, I hate them.
