Secondary low power graphics card for recording, encoding, etc.. Good idea?

Go to solution Solved by ¨TrisT¨,

Tried contacting NVidia(or their forum) why ShadowPlay isn't working?

I figured it out, for some unexplainable magical reason geforce experience was running an old version and it wouldn't find any updates so I just downloaded it manually, now it's all working :D ty for your advice!

Hey!

I might very well be wrong on some stuff but here I go.

I wanted to get into content creation, and I have a 980ti, but for example playing something heavy maxed out and recording it at the same time will have quite a big impact in fps, same goes for encoding(I'd very much like to do CUDA to save some time as my internet is amazingly slow) so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a secondary different graphics card to do these sort of things "in the background" while I edit/model/play...

I was thinking of something like a 750 or a 750ti as they are around ~120€ and have quite the horse power, I tho need your help because I don't know about vram requirements or if this even is a good idea at all.

Thank you for your time and help :}

Yea, I've tried it but either it gives me a stupid error I can't fix no matter what (I'm getting a new hdd soon and I've read it could be about space so I'll see how that goes)

But anyway I just saw the most recent ncix tech tips vid about the 950 and the new update to shadowplay so I'm checking that out.

Well really that vid about SLI and Crossfire in one single rig kinda sets the limit a bit above two.

I play games maxed out and record all the time, and FPS isn't degraded, Shadowplay when it works, works well enough for most people.

When you get around that issue, it will be what I'd use, and you dont need a 2nd GPU to do that.

I had initial issues with Shadowplay too, a few minutes of google had me trying things, and boom, ended up working.

OR

Just build another cheap encoding PC instead of a new GPU (CPU+GPU assisted encoding program),... to do this while your main one plays games.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It would probably be much more expensive to build another one, I'll just leave it encoding during the night and then when I get to a place with a decent connection I'll upload it all at once :P

Ty for the help!

Daxtars Shutdown timer is a great program if you dont want it running all night.

/Most encoding programs give you a 'expected timeframe' and you set the timer for 30-45mins after that, saving a few hours at least of idle usage.
