  • “Nintendo understands that its fans are the reason for its success, and we are always happy to see people share their passion for Nintendo's games. At the same time, Nintendo's intellectual property constitutes its most valuable assets, and the unauthorized use of these assets jeopardizes Nintendo's rights. Because of this, we ask that you please remove the video in question from your channel, and confirm that you will not post any videos using unauthorized software or copies of games, distribute or continue work on the modification, or take any other steps that would infringe Nintendo's rights.”

  • referred him to the Nintendo Creators Program (through which Nintendo takes a cut, listed as 30% for channels and 40% for videos, of ad revenues generated by videos featuring Nintendo games) if he wanted to continue his “fan engagement on YouTube”

This includes videos featuring tool-assisted speedruns, which require making a copy of a game's ROM file, and running the copied ROM through an emulator.”

  • speculated that this is due to the recent release of Super Mario Maker

  • speculated that Nintendo wants to stop people from sharing their ROM hacks (where they make no money) and instead force them to buy the game, where new levels are shared within Nintendo’s own ecosystem

I wanna see some see some next level Virtual Reality.  After all these years AMD showed losses and not much new... it's great to see a killer new line of GPU's, ZEN, Mantle/DX12/Vulcan, HBM, company restructuring/splitting and promoting, and rumors of a deal with the Windows/XBOX makers Microsoft (who recently released a completely new OP system, that as I recall includes/will introduce some wild new VR).  Remember all the hype from AMD about their new game changing tech?  Listen/read closely... you can slightly hear how the ass kissing sellout review channels are changing their same old AMD bashing tune... maybe a new era of PC gaming was not just hype from the Red Team.  VR with TrueAudio will be nice... hopefully it's just about to get good! ;)

I don't really agree with having 64GB as the baseline, but maybe something like 32GB. The original iPhone had 4GB at its lowest price and 4*7 is 28, close enough to 32GB. I'd imagine most iPhone users are very casual and don't need 64GB of storage and even I am not personally against 16GB phones as long as they have expandable storage for my music, pictures and videos, my apps and things that need fast read/write speed don't take up that much space on my phone. Of course there should always be higher storage options since not everyone is like me but not all smaller storage devices are bad. Oh and one last thing $100 for every step up in storage is ridiculous, an extra 48/64GB of storage should not cost me an extra $100.

Making 32gb the baseline wouldn't be advantageous to Apple as it would just discourage people from buying the 64gb model. The way it's set up now, people who don't know better and/or people who don't need the space will get the 16gb version, while people who want more will pay for the 64gb version. If Apple made 32gb the base model, then there wouldn't be a whole lot of incentive to upgrade to the 64gb version (for a very large chunk of those who upgrade to 64gb in the first place).

People are willing to pay $100/$200 for more storage, therefore it would be idiotic of Apple to not charge that much.

Lukes low voice rarely picks up well on the mics. Linus I hear clearly. But everytime Luke speaks, his voice is much lower, and just never picks up on the mic very well. So... I turn up volume to understand and hear Luke... then Linus voice is like YELLING at me. It has been this way since Luke first was introduced on camera in a speaking role (I think that was way back years ago in Linus home). I'm not into Audio Video, but could Luke possible get a mic seperate from Linus and then adjust his voice so we can hear him? This seems like something that should have been discussed already and maybe it has. But I still can't hear Luke. Thanks

Edit:  Including LinusTech tag since my question is realy toward him rather than another forum user.  Thanks.

@LinusTech

I don't have a handicap hearing.  My vision, yes.  But I have excellent hearing, for a 45 yr old. ha.  Really?  no one else has trouble hearing Luke/Slick sometimes?  Most professional setups mic the individuals seperately to control the mix.  But like I said in my previous posting, I'm not a audio video expert.  My question is,  rather than me set up specialized equalizer for this, can LMG fix it on their end?  I mean, I am 45 and a bit lazy since I just click and play.

btw, hello Mesa.  I moved a years ago from Flagstaff to Louisiana.  Arizona trails in North Phoenix (Table Mesa area) and Flagstaff I miss often.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Whether you have a handicap or not, an equalizer will help increase the volume of the ranges of sound which are lacking.

"[Vessel] asked us, 'well do you want to go with an automated system so that you guys are claiming monetization or pulling down content that features your videos' and I said no, of course not! I love it when people ... take what we've created, and [turn] it into something cool."

(I apologize for me butchering that quote, but it's hard when there's two people finishing each other's sentences.)

This is funny to hear, as I posted one of these and it got monetized by Fullscreen immediately.

I understand that you guys are all for community stuff, but this system is obviously already in place whether you're even aware of it or not. I edited that before that moving vlog was even on YouTube, but I waited until it was published by you guys before I uploaded the video, because I wanted to respect your wishes of having Vessel exclusive content. That didn't even matter, I guess.

I don't even monetize my stuff because I don't feel like it's worthwhile to get the 0.02 cents I would get from it, and for that particular video I really didn't do all that much to make it. But it still feels like a slap in the face to get something like this, because suddenly the video you edited together isn't yours anymore - it belongs to a corporation, they get whatever profit off of it they can, and they slap ads everywhere (I absolutely loathe the idea of having ads on my videos).

Maybe you guys just weren't aware this is happening. But it is, and it's odd to hear you're against it when it's clearly going on regardless.

Here's a link to said video if you wanted to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ooXS4MMngI

It isn't yours.

Right, and I get that. I didn't make any of the footage in that video. But I edited it together. I took two separate videos and mashed them together to make something new., but I didn't produce the content in the first place. They have the right to do what they do when it comes to their content being used.

At the same time, though, it's disheartening. My video's not meant to take the place of one of Linus' videos. It's not a re-upload of his content directly (which is what ContentID definitely thinks it is), it's a companion piece to those videos I used. But even though Fullscreen had no input on the creation of my dumb little video, they get 100% of the ad money. They get peanuts from it, but it's just kind of makes you feel down.

Take one of my other stupid videos for example (you don't have to watch it if you don't want): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc6MVKw_guw

I spent a lot of time on this video. Much more than anyone ever should. But Capcom sees that I used music from Ducktales, so they get all the profit off of my 11 views, block it on mobile, and block it in Germany. They have the legal right to do so, it's their music; but c'mon, it's from the NES version, which they don't even sell anymore, and someone thinking "gee, I sure would love to listen to the music from Ducktales right about now" wouldn't be coming to my video to listen to it. But no; because there's a chance that I could just be uploading the song in it's entirety without any other content, Capcom owns my video.

I guess my point is that, although it is completely within people's legal bounds to do this to matched content, it doesn't make it any less of a blow when your work is just tossed aside. I don't make content for a living - I make it because, I hope, somebody gets entertainment out of it. YouTube's ContentID system takes out any sort of human element to these takedowns/monetization (which is necessary for such a huge site, but that doesn't mean ContentID isn't severely flawed). If Linus saw this video directly, I don't think he'd personally go and monetize it; if Hiroshige Tonomura and the team behind Ducktales for the NES saw the other one, I doubt they'd see my video and react in the same way.

I don't own any of the footage in that video; but I own every edit in place there (as small as they may be), and that counts for something.

You hold copyright on the editing, but the original copyright owners still retain ownership of their footage. If you want to bypass YouTube's rules, pay for your own server. It's legal. As a private organisation that is supplying you with a service it has the right to decide what gets put up and who can use their service as long it isn't because of your race, creed, sex, or a few others.

Yep, it's fine, they can choose to do whatever they want.

But that doesn't mean I can't feel slightly peeved by it.

From 1:20:00 is where this show really goes a bit nutty. They try and say the intended audiences of LMG and Nintendo are essentially the same... This is where the tech backgrounds and lack of business acumen of Linus and Luke really rears its ugly unsophisticated head.

You guys are "communicating a message and looking for users to communicate that message back through user content" whereas Nintendo are selling products. The stakes are literally thousands of times greater for Nintendo. Just because a massive entertainment platform of Youtube exists for independent developers to make money through the use of Nintendo's products DOESN'T mean Nintendo are morally obligated to allow and approve of that profit pursuit. LMG is a firm built around information. Nintendo is one built around many many more things.

Object to takedown notices and copyright strikes. Object to the lack of independent opinions outside of traditional media. But rejecting Nintendo's corporate policy of evidently believing its better to maximize control over what informs people's perceptions of their products is asinine and illogical in the extreme. The whole rant is an appeal to nostalgia and emotion - nothing else.
