Ok, so i know there have already been a lot of posts before about getting a job, but that's usually someone who is younger and looking for mowing lawns and stuff. I'm looking for a job working somewhere with techand i was just wondering what you guys could come up with. BTW I'm 18 and i have my own car but the only thing is it would have to be part time because i'm still in high school. Any ideas? What was your first job? I've already looked into working at a cell phone repair store especially because they pay $10/hr but i'm not sure if i'll get the job there.

Also, one more thing. sorry if this is formatted badly or if there's spelling errors because i can't see any words pop up when i type this. it's just a blank white box idk why :P

I got my first job when I was 15 only making 8.50 an hour part time.

Why don't you just work retail like Best Buy or something like that for now. Then later you can bet a better job after you graduate.

If you need the money I would do sales at best buy or work the tech counters at Walmart or target. Most computer/ electronic repair places want you to have at least an A+ certification to work there. If I were you I would try to get your parents to get you into an A+ class and also I would focus on your schooling.

I worked for a company that cleaned offices at night. So I would work every day from 6pm-12am. At the time I didn't care what I did as long as I had money to spend.

Needless to say at 15 you don't have to pay for rent or anything so every month I would have close to $900 to spend on whatever I wanted. Good Times.... Now I'm 22 and I need to pay alot of bills.

Yeah i've actually been looking into A+. My parents i know would be fine with that, they're more than willing to support me it's just that it's always nice when i can provide for myself and also be able to buy more expensive nicer things without having to save up and rely on my amazon account lol. That and also i'm going to school after i graduate so i'll be busy with that and it would be nice to have some job experience anywhere really. I've worked for my dad's company but that was construction and working for family. I also got hired at a waterpark but they never sent me my schedule? i followed up but they never replied to my emails and when i called they just said they would get back to me and never did. Wasted like $100 on the stupid uniform for a job i never got to work.

I know how you feel, I was planning on working at Sea World as my first job but they didn't have me on the schedule and were over all very un organized with getting in contact with the 100 people they hired for the summer.

So I ended up just never showing up and working as the overnight janitor essentially which was a better choice imo. a dollar more an hour and working inside in the AC. Sea World called me about 1 month later asking for their uniforms back and I never called them back.

I got a job at a car dealership in the IT department. I mainly did order entry and answered phone calls, but it really helped having an extra person there to do that so the other guys could focus on keeping the network running safe, stable, and secure.

First job: Sensitivities Tester (ran silicon wafer processing simulations) at Applied Materials when I was 15. Got the job through a summertime "seed" program since my Dad worked there.

I've had over a dozen jobs in tech since then, my advice is to sign up with one or more local temp agencies. I currently work through Robert Half Technology and have worked in the past with: OfficeTeam, Spherion, Einstein Technology, and Kelly Services. They have testing you can take to prove what skills you have. It's not going to be a great career but will help you add experience to your resume and may lead to a temp-to-hire position. You can sign up with them without knowing what company or job position you want to fill and they'll help find the best match they've got for you. The pay should be significantly better than what you would make in any retail or fast food gig.

The only two things to watch out for with temp contracts are to read the job descriptions carefully and search online for reviews of the company you would be working for. There are some sweat shop call centers and such that hire temps en mass for low wages and just churn through them with high volume workloads. Basically, try to avoid any contract that specifically mentions handling phone calls.

Moving company, since my boss knew it was my hobby when someone dropped a pc and the psu was messed up I would replace it with a 2 dollar unit from a used computer parts store. It was the 90's before tech recycling so we had what where basically pc junk yards you could get cheap parts.

If anyone is moving I am SURE that doesn't happen anymore.

We always had older model computers cause many of our bigger customers would replace there pc's every 3 years.

After plug and play former IT people started showing up in the trucking industry as dispatchers. config.sys and autoexec.bat employed allot of people.

Tried writing code but it was boring and truck driving wasn't. "Do what you love and you will never have to work again" Rush Limbaugh
