PETG/Acrylic bending insert

blu4

Hey,

I'm about to purchase the insert for the tubing so it doesn't collapse. My only concern is the size- the tubing I've bought is 11mm ID and the bending tube is either 12mm or 10mm thickness. Will any of the two work? I assume the 12mm won't but what about the 10mm? It will be a bit small but will it still do the job?

Thanks

AFAIK it's already a really tight fit to squeeze those things in, if it's 12mm tube it "should" bend OK, but if it's 10mm it may be difficult to stuff that thing in.

The insert has smaller diameter than my PETG tubing- just wondering if the tube will collapse a bit when a smaller insert?

Aw I read that the other way.

I think it may collapse a tiny bit but I don't think it will cause any issues.   The only way to properly find out will be to try it and see.

It won't give you as clean looking bends as a very snug fitting insert, but it won't collapse. I bought a monsoon bending kit and it came with an insert that was probably 1mm smaller then the tub i was using and this is how my bends came out.

Looking at the bends, are they noticeably collapsed? I can see that a little bit but that could be the picture.

Get the 12mm one. It's better to have it a little big than small. If it's too big and can't fit you can always buy some sandpaper at your local hardware store and sand it down a bit. Lubrication is a must even with the perfect size so I'd recommend the 12mm and some Sandpaper if it won't fit with lube.

The insert is rubber.. How do you sand rubber?

The same way you would sand anything else. Sandpaper can sand down rubber by removing tiny particles of the material.

Jesus christ this forum sometimes, sand down rubber? It would take ages and possibly destroy the silicone... You'd be stood there for ages wanking off that rubber tube for an age before it fit in....

Nevermind guys, I was looking at the wrong thing. My PETG tube is 16/12. My soft tube is 16/11. I got the right item, thanks for the help :)

Literally about to post this, they only sell two sizes so pick the one that's your size as it will be approx one mm smaller to fit inside the tube, any smaller and it will kink.

I wasn't actually believe this and though the same thing "wank the rubber with sandpaper for 3 hours" xD
