Corsair Dominator 32GB 3000Mhz, do you need the fan with it

Hello

 

I am looking at getting the Corsair Dominator 32GB 3000Mhz version, it says that it comes with an LED fan, do you really need it though

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

RAM fan is just some gimmicks.

It is only £320 now, it was at £400 but it has been reduced, the 2666Mhz version is £280, so I will just spend the extra £40 just to upgrade to 3000Mhz as I will be keeping it for 6 years

 

I am doing some rendering for University work, I did some last year and it took so long to render some of my work for a game.

If only they could keep the fan and reduce the cost of the RAM by £30 as the fan actually costs £40 to buy from retailers

No, your case airflow in generally enough unless it's ridiculously fast, high voltage ram.

Well 3000Mhz at 1.35V

 

2400Mhz DDR3 @1.65 doesn't need a fan, so I very highly doubt that that dominator plat memory will need a cooler for it, your case airflow will suffice.

I don't truly think so. I don't think games make use of higher speed ram, APUs do but I think after 2133mhz even APUs don't use the higher frequency.

If you wanna spend that kindda money for bragging rights go ahead but you could easily spray paint those Ripjaws V matte black and have some great looking ram,

I like Corsair and the Dominator series just looks so good, the G Skills one just look cheap, I am spending a lot of money on the computer, so I want things to look Premium in it.

G.Skill is one of the top end ram companies. Along with Kingston and Adata. It's your money so I can't truly stop you but ram is ram. They all perform the same. 3000mhz vs 3000mhz of ram from different companies is just the same. The dominator Platniums for example are like beats, they throw a fancy looking heat sink that probably cost $20 to make and charge you a extra £100, but like I said, your money not mine.

Yeah, I understand, it most likely did cost them £20 to make and I do understand that they perform the same from companies, I just want the Corsair Dominator RAM though, thanks for your help though

For almost every consumer application in cpus? No. Ram speed hasn't mattered in 10 years.

Check out crucial memory as well (crucial is micron...) Personally I'd never be caught dead with dominator platinums (but look up images of my ram in the Sig, and you will see we have very different taste.)
