I have a ps4 and want to get a nice display for it. Right now its  sharing a display with my computer. The display its using now is a vg248qe.

I'd like to find something that is a larger display and also 1ms. Should i go with ips or tn? Any suggestions you guys? i guess it wouldnt have to be over 60hz seeing as the ps4 will never go over that anyway. Thanks!

NOTE: Obviously the cheaper the better.

Would 27 inch be big enough? how far away are you from your screen?

But it's for a console though. I figured OP would also use it for Blurays and video streaming.

Clearly you did not read my question

Because of the awful input lag they carry with them.

Thank you for being the only person who read the question. 27inch would be fine.. I'm sitting about two feet from it normally. Just when people come over I have to sit back and the larger display is always nice.

I don't know about specific good 27" displays with HDMI.. But if you want 1ms response time, IPS is probably not going to be a thing..

Brands I know are good are Dell (maybe take a look at their Ultrasharp line), maybe BENQ (their XL line features a few 27" gaming monitors, just be careful some are 144Hz), Asus has some nice 27" displays too.

Samsung is decent, but can't think of a line of them which is real good.

highly recommend a tv if you want a larger display. could get a 30-40inch tv for the price of a 27inch monitor.

For 1ms... you won't find any IPS monitors/TVs, for 1ms you should go with a TN panel. I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/VS278Q-P-Ultrafast-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B009HNEBLK

Yeah. CHeaper tv's have less input lag  then expensive tvs usually. If it has a nice panel and does post processing  then it all takes time.

nope. You cant turn off the type of panel it is.. lol. There is a "gaming" mode. But it makes very little difference with mine.

I'm sure you probably wont need to read it, but here is a nice article just in case you wanted to: https://pcmonitors.info/articles/monitors-for-console-gaming/

It basically says why all you'll want is a 1920x1080 60Hz IPS monitor if it's just for use on your PS4.

And I say IPS because you don't need a 1ms response time, for console gaming OR for highly competitive PC Gaming, in either cases an IPS display with its 4/5ms quoted g2g will be more than good enough, and not to mention as far as ghosting goes (The negative effect of a bad response time) some cheap 1ms TNs can have just as bad or worse ghosting than a cheap 5ms IPS, the same in reverse. The quoted G2G Response time is pretty much meaningless and just a marketing gimmick.

For the best experience due to colour accuracy and viewing angles go for a cheap IPS 1080p 60Hz display.

Latency comes 100% from the display controller and signal processing. The panel type has no effect on it.

IMO since a console won't be putting out more than 60Hz, I'd go with a nice 1080p IPS panel. The Dell S2715H would be a good choice if you don't mind a glossy finish.
