Why in the name of god aren't people starting their own internet service providers?

Seriously, in the US, with the way the established companies act, you could put them ALL out of business by offering decent service, at a similar price.

Romania didn't even have copper lines in a large part of the country, and when they finally started investing in their telecom networks, they just went straight for full fibre coverage, it's as simple as that.

trust me you can't its quite sad I live in a nice part of a Liverpool (a really big city in the UK) and still there's no fibre optic around here! The highest speed possible in 80% of the UK is 17 mbps

Have you considered virgin media. I've got it in Liverpool and it's pretty bloody quick even for their lowest offering, plus they're getting a doubling of speed in less than a year.

India is ranked No.5 in slowest internet connection as far as a nation goes, so just imagine how unbearable Internet we have here.

Top 10 countries with slowest internet listed here : http://www.elist10.com/worlds-top-10-countries-slow-internet-connection/

Well, Romania is ranked №5 in fastest internet connection according same site: http://www.elist10.com/worlds-top-10-countries-with-fast-internet-connection/

PS: Lucky me, my country is in "fast internet" list too  :D

English is not my maternal language, so don't mind my mistakes...

Imagine the costs of cutting down trees, locating the remains of the mines when digging cables etc.

Look at how its being installed, current infrastructure is being used where possible.

We've been with Virginmedia since they bought out Telewest, as such they love us and keep giving us free upgrades and about 25% off the package rates per month.

4630579523.png

We live down a dead-end road (it ends in a church & graveyard, can't be more literal than that) and are the only customers, so we have 0 line contention and our own routy-box-ixp-thingy-do, I've seen it hit 165u - 15d before.

You can get super-uber business lines in the UK that go at ludicrous speeds, but they're so expensive you really need to be a business to justify the cost... or just incredibly rich, but then I guess you'd be busy being rich and not caring too much about the internet.

But as has already been said, if you're in England and not in a major city, VM is probably your best bet for consistent speeds and responsive customer support.

And the ISP's have no reason to upgrade and charge loads of money

And most packages require us to have absolutely useless landlines that nobody uses...

I live near a grade 1 or 2 listed building so maybe that's the reason I can't get it. On talktalk when I'm playing Xbox its fine and then out of the blue it'll lag me out of the game.

No offense, but you don't get to complain.

My connection is pretty bad aka sucks a**, but it's not even near what some people have.

And yes I do have the max possible thing, but the copper wire loss is pretty bad since I'm quite far from the base station.

I live IN a grade 2 listed building, I think the issue comes from street access in most cases. My brother tried getting VM installed in his last house, he came home in time to see them drilling into the wall of the house opposite, when they realised their mistake and did some checking, turned out he couldn't get it on his side. I don't know if you can check anywhere online or if you'd have to get an engineer out to tell you in person.
