dxdiag says I have 4GB of VRAM, actually have 2

dxdiag says that I have approximately 4GBs of RAM on my GTX770, however I purchased it as a 2GB version and the box also doesn't indicate anything like that it's a 4GB version.

It should be 4096 if it was 4GB but idk either dxdiag read it wrong (happens alot) of you got really really lucky; you may want to run some kind of benchmark at max settings with afterburner open to monitor you VRAM usage and if it goes over 2GB you're happy.

It says the same for my gtx 680 2gb. Not sure what makes dxdiag read it like that though.

Edit: However it does says approximately 4gb. So that's a pretty safe margin.

It's dxdiag. My one says it has 6868mb and i know for a fact i have a 3gb 7950

I think dxdiag reads DDR3 memory correctly and DDR5 memory as double ^_^

I can't get more than 1667MB VRAM usage even on unigine heaven. I'm running everything on maximum (tesselations extreme 8xMSAA at 2560x1440)

Unless they're both on screen at the same time I don't think that'd work but you're free to try. A good thing to run is this

GPUz says 2048MB I suppose it's right but considering even the benchmarks had a hard time filling up those 2 GBs, I doubt my card will pose a bottleneck in the near future.

When you get graphics card some say the minimum memory you should have e.g. 6gb of ram. Because if the RAM on the gpu runs out e.g. playing a hard core game and it uses all your RAM on your GPU it automaticly uses the memory in your case, 2gb of your RAM stick.

The added VRAM is actually pagefiling it will use the page file after VRAM runs out however it will stutter since a harddrive isn't as fast a gddr5 so dxdiag is correct I have like 10 gbs of VRAM with pagefiling.

My card is only 1GB of VRAM. I think its something to do with RAM sharing, the GPU might be using some of the RAM in your PC as extra VRAM. I know laptops do this, think the same applies for desktops as well. Take no notice of it.

No, no it is not. You cannot use physical STORAGE memory as extra RAM. Dxdiag is getting that extra "VRAM" from the RAM in your system. If it was pagefile mine would be showing up at 8GBs as that is the size of my current pagefile.
