What are you using 2/3/4 Titan X's for? Sure buy as many as you want if you're dead set on getting them  :P

At four Titans, "worth" is not part of the equation.  It is simply a matter of IDC if I drop/waste $4K.

heavy gaming,rendering and livestreaming.

2 980Ti's can do that just fine

Even a single 980Ti/Titan X can do that

Straight up, even though you don't want to hear about the 980ti it is the better card over all. With Nvidia at the moment its the GTX 970 or GTX 980ti. The 980 and Titan X are pointless.

Micro-stuttering is supposed to be horrible on 4x titan x. Please do not get it.

Titan X is totaly gimped on dual precission and all that stuff,

which dont make them any interessting for workstation based applications anymore.

I dont realy see why somebody would even concider a Titan X over a GTX980Ti in general.

12GB GDDR5 vram buffer for nothing...

For gaming, 3 and 4-way SLI doesn't scale as well as 2-way. Many games don't support that many cards, but even the ones that do usually don't see much performance improvement.. You'd be throwing away $2000 for nothing, effectively.

For rendering, it will depend on whether or not your rendering software supports GPU (CUDA) acceleration and whether or not it supports 3/4 cards.. Even if it does, the question you have to ask yourself is will the potential performance increase be worth the extra $2000? Is your personal workload really that intense?

IIRC, livestreaming will require a CPU with great multithreaded performance (or a GPU that can encode the video on the fly). If you're spending an insane amount of money, why not get a 5960X? (or save some money and get a 5930K or 5820K)..

Get 2 cards max. Better yet, get 2 980TIs for half the price.. If you do indeed feel like blowing tons of money on not very much additional performance, why ask us? Just do it, man.

Edit: Maybe I should clarify this.. Yes, I did suggest the 980TI in a thread in which OP explicitly asked for people to not suggest the 980TI. The point is, the performance is so close to the Titan X that it doesn't really matter, yet the pricetag is a considerable amount lower. Since the Titan X doesn't even have the incredible FP64 performance of the original Titan, you can't even use that to justify the added cost.

To repeat myself, if OP wants to throw money away, I'm not going to stop him. But if he's asking for suggestions about a GPU setup, I'm sure as hell going to recommend the most reasonable setup, which I believe to be the 980TIs.

Have a good day, everyone.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems
