So I am thinking about making the switch from Shaw to Rogers for their 250/20 ($95/month) plan since the price is about the same as what I'am paying at Shaw for 60/10 ($90/month). Does anyone have experience with Rogers as I have never in my life dealt with them. Is there service reliable?

Used their service for years now and I can't say they're bad overall I've had a decent experience, as long as your not in a bad area your connection and reliability should be good. They usually almost always give you more than you pay for as long as there isn't a crazy amount of internet traffic.

Thats good to hear. Im tired of getting the short end of the stick with Shaw. They keep hiking their rates and actually I don't even have 10Mbps upload any more...its only 3Mbps... They're claiming they're upgrading their infrastructure which is load of total horse sh!t

I would say most of them are claiming that but are basically maintaining what they have so it keeps working, but for my connection I'm on the 100U (100D/10U) and get a down of ~130mb and up of ~15mb. Sometimes it does dip down at times but it's pretty good for the most part for me at least, not sure if others have some horror stories with them.

I've got Rogers Ignite 100u, their 100/10 unlimited plan. I get 130/11 as you can see below. This is in Toronto though so YMMV. Only had their service for about 2 months now but no complaints. Speed is better than advertised, haven't had any slowdowns during peak hours, and it's never gone down. If you want good wireless speeds and range you'll want your own router because their WiFi modem sucks in this respect. I'm using a Netgear R7000 fyi.

I believe Rogers is going with metered internet. Speeds are high, but initial data-caps are low, as low as 300gb a month. Just make sure you know what you are getting, this includes data caps. From my experiences with Shaw they don't enforce their data caps.

Just double check with them to make sure it's eligible in your area first some places they don't all have it, almost all locations should have the 100U however.

Their actual internet is not bad. Just like any big ISP, it depends on the location. They have a reputation for over subscribing their nodes though, which can sometimes impact speeds during peek hours.

I would make sure you can even get Rogers though - generally speaking, only one Cable Company operates in any given neighbourhood at a time. There's usually only one physical coaxial cable connection coming into a home/apartment. That single connection will be connected to a node owned by either Rogers or Shaw - if you currently already have Shaw, then odds are, Shaw owns the infrastructure (The "last mile").

Generally speaking, the only way to get another ISP of the same type (Cable), is through a TPIA (Third Party Internet Access) ISP. In that case, if Rogers was acting as a TPIA, then the new plan with Rogers would be identical to the equivalent plan with Shaw.

A friend of mine has this plan and only gets 80/10. He also has alot of problems with his connection randomly disconnecting.

Yeah as I said with my previous post, the service can really vary per location.

Rogers also generally use a lot of overseas call centres, and they have a really bad reputation for the quality of their customer service.

With that in mind, I have the 150/10 Mbps plan through TekSavvy, and it's using Rogers Lines for the last mile. I get the speed I pay for, it's fast and decent ping - with very little outages.

Yea, I everyone I know that has Rogers, hates their customer support. That's why I use Bell, sure it costs more for slower speeds but it is worth it for the reliability, the customer support, and the consistent speed. I would love to switch to teksavvy but I am not the one who pays the bills and I am not sure if they cover where I live.

TekSavvy usually will cover anywhere that Bell or Rogers offers service - barring some exclusivity agreement for certain condos/apartment buildings.

They're worth switching for the Customer Service alone - real customer service call centre - which is located in Ontario at their head office.

I just wish that TekSavvy could offer the 250 Mbps plan that Rogers sells. They currently cap their plans at 100 Mbps (They don't even offer the 150 Mbps plan that I'm on anymore to new Customers - I've been Grandfathered in when they stopped offering it).
