Minimum Requirements

SamSeama

I alway wondered, What would be the minimum needed for a PC to play ANY game that was launched until today on 3x 4k screens end everything maxed out, everything ultra at 60fps.  Is it even possible? Preferably no overclocking.  I've seen all kinds of builds from a $140 build, all parts from Amazon to $15k builds with custom cases and water cooling and stuff like that.  I don't want to see anything custom, just out of the box parts.

I'll start off with what I think would do it and might even be a bit of overkill.

Case: Corsair Air 540

PSU: Corsair HX 1000i

VGA: 2x or 3x GTX 980 TIs

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming 7

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k

CPU Cooling: Corsair H 110i

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR4 2666MHz

SSD: 2x Intel 535 Series 240GB SATA-III M.2

HDD: 2x WD Black 1TB SATA-III 7200 RPM 64MB

Is this overkill? Do you have any other ideas? Is there a cheaper solution?

Nope. You can BARELY run 1 4k monitor at 60fps Ultra with 2/3 Titan Xs. Not happening for a long time.

Your gonna need Quad 980 TI's for a playable experience. Even then, Quad SLI setups experience extreme micro-stuttering making the games unplayable.

CPU: Intel i5 4690k @ 4.3 GHz       GPU: MSI GTX 980                      Cooling: be quiet! Pure Rock                     OS: Windows 7            Monitor: BenQ XL2411Z

No 2 titan x's can do a single monitor 60fps

I said BARELY for a reason. Also not all games can (Witcher 3 for example, talking average fps).

maybe nvidia pascal gpu's might be able too as Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that Pascal will be up to 10 times the performance of Maxwell so... 2016-17?

2 980Tis past two you get no gains, poor scaling and potential bottlenecks.

SLI/Xfire is still kind of a hit and miss with poor drivers, some games not having SLI support and micro stuttering and even then it's still not powerful enough for some games. So we can't really say that we can fully run 4K until there's a single card that can run 60 fps ultra and you could only run 1 monitor anyways it's impossible to run three monitors at 4K even 4 Titan Xs will struggle.

Ok, so we throw two monitors out the window, what is the minimum needed to play anything ultra on a single 4k monitor at 60fps?
