should i buy a gtx 970 now, or wait for the next generation?

EzioSan

i saw a lot of videos, and i noticed that even the gtx 970 can struggle to play on 1080p ultra with 60fps+ like in witcher 3.

and here i dont know if its better to wait a little, cause i also would really like to play on a 1440p display.

define 'struggle'
also it depends on your you know, other components??

and if you want to play on a 1440p display then I dont even know why you would consider the 970 for ultra settings at over 60 fps like what

Can you wait? Yes? Then wait.

Can you not wait? No? Then get it now

Also consider the R9 390, imo the better card for this price

You do realize that if your average framerate is ~50, it means it probably drops down to ~30, and goes as high as 70 or so, right? Also, 53 fps in Shadow of Mordor was from the in-game benchmark, which is not as demanding as the game. And even half the map in SoM is not as demanding as the other half, which has a ton of grass. In BF4, you might get close to 60 fps on average at 1440p, but as soon as explosions happen, which are really demanding on the GPU, it'll drop to 30 or even below 30. My OCed 970 drops to 40 fps on Ultra settings 1080p.

So average fps is meaningless if the minimum fps is too low. OP said he wants 60+ fps on Ultra at 1440p, which is something only one GPU can do, or at least come close to it, and that is 980 Ti.

Not even 980 Ti will be able to maintain 60 fps at all times, but it it's your best bet. If you absolutely want 60+ at all times, you can always reduce some settings, you don't have to have everything maxed out. Usually in games some settings are so demanding on hardware, it's just not worth it to have them on, and in some cases there isn't even a noticeable visual difference.

If Nvidia made a 970 with a 512 bit bus. Things would get interesting.

how do you expect us to help if you don,t give ANY details about your hardware?!

What GPU you currently own, PSU, CPU...?!

One thing for sure if you want witcher 3 Ultra 60FPS 1440P...you want a 980ti or two...can the 970 play games well on a mix of medium/high settings at 1440p? sure...
