Can i just spray paint over my monitor bezel? If i mask off the screen

Go to solution Solved by Syntaxvgm,

oh wow thanks man! sorry for the trouble

It's no probs

I'm in bed watching movies, not much else

(but given I've been up all night and it's 7 am est, I'm not uploadings pics)

Good news, to take the bezel off, you just need to pop some plastic tabs.

Now, I'd use a flatter screwdriver or multiple ones carefully to avoid scarring. I have soft plastic tools to prevent this, but if you take your time you can accomplish this with regular flat head. I'd normally recommend a pocket knife, but the tabs are rather large.

(I don't give a shit about this screen, I just shoved it in there, pulled it partway apart)

Start at the bottom, directly under the dell logo is the first tab. It's good to start there, it's a good point of reference, and it's on the bottom, which makes it least notice if you scar it.

Pop that one, and work your way right or left, one tab at a time, around the screen.

Once you lift it off, be careful- the control buttons are attached by a flat cable. The buttons came come off via two small screws. Take that off, good to go.

I'm not sure if the little buttons come off the panel easily and can be painted, but try to keep the paint on the buttons a bit thin to avoid making them tough to move.

Right so i have this silver bezelled 19" Dell monitor. I hate the colour of the bezel and it really bothers me, coz i have 2 other black bezelled panels nd the silver just stand out.

I really dont feel confident taking the monitor apart to remove the bezel and paint it separately.

Its really old and there is no such documentaion of it online. So i dont know if it'll survive if i open it up

Is it ok to tape over my screen and monitor buttons using masking tape. If i do it perfectly. Can i just spray paint over the bezel.

Is it safe? Will the monitor work properly after?

this is the one, if that matters

I have one of those, taking it apart is easy, just take it apart.

So much less chance to fuck up then trying to cover it

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Should be fine if you tape it up EXTREMELY well

Removing the bezel should be really easy though, they should come off any monitor, and it should be very simple

can u tell me how? do i just pry it open with a flat-head screwdriver?

nd does it pop back onto the monitor after removal?

I'm worried it is held on by only adhesive. In which case i may not be able to put it back on properly.

Thanks

I'm pretty certain it's not held by adhesive. You don't have to worry about that much with desktop monitors, especially larger ones that include the psu in the screen instead of on a separate brick.

Tell yah what, ima take it off my shelf and take it apart and tell you if there's anything special to it.

I think I used to hate this screen for that silver bezel. I applaud your action of painting it, I can't stand bright bezels.
