Good speedtest, terribly long loading times!

4574772647.png

While this is my speedtest, ever since I connected my new router (R7000 Nighthawk) I get terribly long wait times before a webpage opens, I have to click several times for it to open... Before it was a snappy 1 click! It's really annoying and nothing helps, even on mobile devices it's messed up like this.

By the way, this is my router's wireless 5G output (it's next to my pc). It also has dropped after installing it, I used to get the same speeds as the wired connection.

P.S: I also have it set up as an access point.

Is this only with 1 specific website? If so, can you link me to it? (So I can confirm it's not just a slow site right now)

And your ping is not very high.. But kinda high-ish for your speeds. Have you tried a ping test? To see how many packages are lost (if any)

Since I added that new router I've been having it on pretty much every site...

I'll try a ping test

This is my pingtest: 128694426.png

And a fresh speedtest while typing on the forum:4574842746.png

Something very odd is happening I feel, my connection drops while doing stuff, I've had this before, just like the router doesn't send out the maximum speed anymore.

Even skype is lagging when sending messages... I could really use some help. Watching HD netflix is no problem though.

How is your network setup looking?

Is your PC connected with a cable directly to your router or is it connected via WiFi or a switch, etc..

And, may sound kinda silly, have you tried resetting your router?

My pc now is directly connected to the switch in the basement, so is my router, the switch is connected to my doscis 3 modem/router combo. I get the same problems if i connect to the router which is connected to the switch.

Have tried resetting the router but haven't tried the modem and shutting down the switch. I'll try all of these things and post an update.

I doubt it's your router, your wireless or anything else on your end. I'm willing to bet that your ISP has some external connectivity issues that they're trying to work through. I'd check their site and see if they have reported any outages. Because if you're running Netflix fine and getting speedtests of 100Mbps+ with ~15ms ping? It's not your end.

I was thinking so too, my friend had issues yesterday as well. So far everything is fine today.

Can you do a trace to Google and post the output? On Windows:

Try the Google DNS servers to see if it helps. The google DNS servers are:

  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4

Also disable IPv6 support in your router.

ipv6 was already disabled, The lowest tracert was 1 ms and the highest 34 ms, I've had 1 failure in 13.

Usually it's DNS servers that cause pages to hang bro, as said above change them and see what happens, the other month at my dads his DNS completely screwed up and he couldn't get on anything or even ping anything, had to give each device a different DNS.

That sounds very much like an MTU problem or fragmented packages.

Do you know which MTU your ISP is using and have you set your router to the same MTU? :)

I don't know, what is an MTU and under what setting would I find it?

MTU is basicly the largest size of the packages your traffic gets encapsulated in before it is transmitted trough a network.

You might find it here

But you will need to know what the MTU is set to on your ISPs network aswell in order to make those match :)

You can call them if they dont write it on their webpage.

When your ISP give you the router it already has the correct settings in mate so it won't be MTU that's the issue, not likely anyway.

Have you updated the router's firmware?...if not do so. Have you set up any QoS on your router? Contact NetGear if all else fails. You can also install DDWRT on this router and have zero problems but be warned, only an expert should do a factory to DDWRT firmware upgrade.

I've updated to the latest firmware, didn't help. I set up the router as an access point now so I can't set up QoS. It's because it's an AP that I shouldn't have problems, especially since my modem/router combo is sending out all the ips.

You should still be able to set up QoS on an AP. Have you done a network adapter reset?.....like disable and then enable it again after a few seconds? Have you tried the ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /flushdns and then ipconfig /renew?
