I used to type fast and accurate. Now I type fast, but not accurate. Why is that? Here are two examples I notice when I type sometimes.

1: Once and a while I put a word in the incorrect place. For instance instead of typing "I've got to do that" I might type "I've got do to that". Sometimes it's with bigger words too, of course I correct it before I finish the sentence.

2: I type the word with all the letters in the wrong place. For instance I typed "Network" not too long ago but instead I typed "Netowkr"

Am I loosing it? Has anyone else done this before?

Dyslexia?

I hope not. At least it's not every word something happens. It's once and a while.

I feel like I'm thinking it too fast. Like my brain might think ahead too far and instead I will type the word I'm thinking at the moment and not the word that I was going to put there a second ago.

Ever since I got a new keyboard (corsair RGB k65) I have had accuracy problems as well. Maybe because my old keyboard (Razer deathstalker) had much larger keys, which better suited my sausage fingers.

Also, I'm having this problem where specific keys sort of "stick". Not in the way you are thinking, but in a way that a normal fast keystroke apparently types the letter/number/symbol more than once. Can't seem to figure out why, even after thoroughly cleaning the keyboard.

As you get older your body tends to do this.  What happened is your mind is getting use to typing to a degree that it is muscle memory.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

If its not a constant issue then I can see overcoming it, but cmon, mixing up letters in words and mixing up words in a sentence kinda sounds as close to dyslexia are youre gonna get.

Well although I type very fast my accuracy is terrible simply because I am Dyslexic. It often take me a only few seconds to pound something out but then a further ~10 minutes to fix and reorganize it. Even then I still have to edit it...

Fortunately for me I don't have to care so much because I write code for a living and not literary works.

That said I also agree with @TheProfosist in that I find our current interface technology annoyingly slow and limiting. I would love to interface directly... neurologically.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

Lol I write that way lots of times too or if I do manage to keep up it becomes borderline legible.

I still prefer a nice pens and nice paper to take down my thoughts and ideas. I love the feel of physical but digital keeps me organized.

Oh 's long time ago when I started on GH I forced my self to learn to mostly touch type with blanks caps. I did get a odd side effect though. I type yo u instead of you and the u gets stuck onto the following word. It only happens with you and is quit odd.

I switched to a chiclet membrane keyboard and now zero errors

Also, my chance of RSI is reduced

Chiclet and membrane reason don't go together. It's usually one or the other.

Also what reasoning do you have that it reduces your chances of RSI?

My friend, I have only seen one or two chiclet keyboards which are not membrane.

In fact, show me a keyboard which is chiclet and mechanical.

And about reducing RSI, these factors:

  • Reduced shock because it's a rubber dome rather than bottoming out to just a metal surface
  • Reduced travel, thus your fingers move less
  • Reduced actuation force thus your fingers aren't working as hard
  • Increased movement of fingers across the keyboard because the keys are more spaced out therefore less RSI because moving is not repetitive

And yes, I did consult my doctor about it last time I saw him. He recommended this keyboard.

I think it's due to out-of-order execution. Also we don't have ECC memory.

I find it helpful to do a "mental confirm" as I type each word. Before I type each word, I bring up the spelling in my head. Then, as I'm typing, I make sure I type everything in order.

This consumes more brain cycles, but it's useful as a training exercise to make your brain use in-order execution more often.

I think this is more an issue of how the brain works rather than a disorder. About "to do" vs "do to", both arrangements can be used in a proper sentence in everyday conversation, so your brain doesn't automatically flag it as incorrect or suspicious until you take a step back and look at the entire sentence as a whole.

A similar thing with spelling words with the right letters but with the wrong order. I remember some semi-popular article or site from years back that showed how your brain can perfectly understand jumbled-up words as long as the first and last letters were in the right place. It's a similar case here, your brain understands perfectly the words that make up the word, but something just gets "lost in translation" between the brain and your fingers when typing out the words. When I was younger and learning to play the piano, I would make similar mistakes. I would know perfectly well what notes I needed to play for a piece, but the "order of execution" between my right and left hands just sometimes gets jumbled up.

I'm no brain doctor or expert, but I think there are some valid points up there.
