Not relevant.  You "Accepted" the terms when you signed up.  You have no rights here.  =)  Doesn't mean you can't say whatever you like, just that you can't expect to be put up with if you say offensive things.  Not that you are saying offensive things.  Just saying.

True, true. However all I'm saying is that he's not taking full advantage of his options here. If he wants to do CAD which is some pretty serious shit (trust me - I do this stuff every day) he's gonna want to maximize all the RAM he can get. Graphisoft ArchiCAD v19 is the most massive program ever. At its peak it utilizes 44.8GB of memory at a time. That's a lot of memory. Assuming OP wants to go into CAD for profession use, then the 32GB may be necessary. But, this is my opinion, I'm sure you have yours.

Okay, but if he can't justify the build he wants already, how well do you think x99 is going to fly w/ his parents?  It just wont.  And yah I get that it uses a crap-ton of ram, but still.  Maxing ram is good & all and he should totally do it if he's serious about the CAD thing, but we're trying to get him upgraded @ a price point his parents will agree to and where he still gets to game.

Do you really need two 500 GB SSD and a WD black?

Dude I was just copying his "argument" when he told me to leave... you didn't get the joke at all.

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.

you should ask them point blank that you have a huge interest in the internal parts of the computer and the technological advances that have been made in the last few years and do they think its a smart idea to get into a career with building computers and the sciences that are involved. Tell them like you did with us that you pull your computer apart just for the fun of it so you can learn as much as possible and just enjoy handling the internals of the PC. Google some college information on the best tech school in the area and ask them if it is to big of jump to think you are capable of doing something so involved and time consuming as a Computer Career and they should jump behind you and push you into getting involved. Also have a plan for what you can do with the computer in the next two years to have it as maybe a test bench in the end so you can test components. You should also explain that doing dual harddrives allows you to run RAID another advance in tech...lol if you are sincere and really want this they should see that when you are explaining it. just make sure you repeat how extremely important this is for you and you just don't want to waste any more time with a computer you cant learn anything more from. If they do this for you then you need to prove yourself worthy and make them proud!!!

The reality is, if you're serious about getting a PC that can do that job, you'll settle for the cheapest parts you can get that still get you what you need.

Instead of 32gb of vengence pro, you go w/ 32gb kingston value ram.  No flash.  No nonsense.  Same amount of memory bc quantity matters more than quality here.

Instead of 2 850 evo's, you go 1 Crucial BX100 because you don't need raid 0 for a boot drive.

Instead of a 980Ti, you go w/ a 960.

Instead of a 3TB wd black/red/whatever, you get an HGST 2TB drive because you shouldn't be keeping the porn on your drive after you've 'used' it anyway.

And Instead of an H440, you go w/ an NZXT Source 210 because function over form.

Man, what I'd give to be able to mooch a roof over my head, food and technology off my parents any more having moved out.

I really would not push it or anything, just get the following, for £500. £1600 is enough to buy a vehicle so it's not an arbitrary amount of money. Quite frankly, I have no respect for your parents if they agree to this scheme.

  • Case: Fractal Design Core 1300
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte H81M-S2H
  • Processor: Intel i5-4460
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB
  • Hard drive: Salvage it from your previous computer
  • Solid State Drive: £30, 60 gig, there are many to choose from
  • Power Supply: Cheapest reputable 400-500 watt unit you can find.
  • Graphics Card: GTX 960

All of these you can get from Scan.co.uk
