Gaming Rig

Hello, I'm new to this discussion board. I joined after doing some research, looking at the reviews and guides on YouTube, looking at benchmarks and tests done by others.

It's been over a decade since I last built a custom PC, and since then I have been using laptops and MacBooks for work with little emphasis on buying machines for gaming. Until recently I have been satisfied with playing games on my 3 year old Retina MacBook Pro with medium to low graphics settings. That is no longer the case, I want to play games with good graphics settings and the latest 3D games.

After doing a bit of research as previously stated, I decided to build a custom PC. With the following components for now, and with a plan to add some additional components in the coming month.

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos II
At first I thought I would want to add custom water cooling hence this large case. After a couple of weeks with it and reading additional reviews from people who have experiences with custom water cooling, I have decided against custom water cooling and it seems this case is now too roomy. Unfortunately it is too late to return it and get a smaller case, however the extra room in the case could be good for having good air flow.

Now for the electronics.
MSI z97 xPower AC
Intel i7 4790K
Zotac Titan X (1 card for now, will get a 2nd card for 2-way SLI)
32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro memory
Kingston HyperX Savage SSD (480GB)
2x 2TB Western Digital Green HDDs (for internal data storage and backup, I have external RAID NAS's already)
Corsair HX850w power supply
Corsair H110 AIO water cooling for the cpu

Additionally, I have a 2nd 480GB SSD Sandisk Extreme that was rarely used for recording video from my Atomos external recorder. And I am using my 8 year old Asus mk241h 24" 1920x1200 monitor. I plan to replace this with a triple monitor setup in the near future, however I have yet to decide on which ones to get.

So that's the rig I have built and the components I plan to add soon. What I would like is some advice about which monitors to get, how to overclock the CPU if necessary and any other 2 cents people like to add.

Firstly, you won't need a Titan unless you will use up all the VRAM

Second, get a samsung SSD preferably the 850 series

Lastly, you won't need that much RAM for games, it's often used for rendering

The amount of RAM you place is way too overkill

the titan X isn't worth it...it literally performs the sameas the cheaper 980ti

You don't need a i7 for gaming tasks, the i5 4690k is more than enough

Ok a reply to the above individuals who have commented so far.

1. I already have the PC built, without the 2nd GPU or the new monitors.

2. This gaming PC will also serve a second purpose as a rendering machine so I can offload some of the more extensive After Effects/Premiere Pro work from my Macbook.

3. Yes I will add a Samsung Evo SSD later, the Kingston right now is hosting Windows 7 and some application files.  The old Sandisk SSD is serving as temporary host for the location where the game files are installed but it will be replaced with a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD later.

4. For the new monitors, I am not sure what to get.  Ideally I wish I could budget for 3x Eizo ColorEdge monitors.  That being said my requirements in the monitors would at the minumim be a resolution of 1920x1200 or 2560x1440 each, or would a single ultra wide 21:9 monitor be better?  What about refresh rates, 60hz is enough or 120-144hz are better?

Additionally I should mention I don't live in North America or Australia. I live in Switzerland.  Hence prices for parts and their availability would be slightly different.  I'm going with what local retailers/distributors sell for the sake of making my life easier if something goes wrong, instead of ordering online or overseas.

I'm not looking to future proof anything.  I want to build the "best" machine possible in contrast to what I am spending.

Ignoring the prices this is a list of parts currently installed in my case, with a few things to note:

1. The case fans marked in RED are what I am estimating to be equivalent to the fans included with the Cooler Master Cosmos II case, I added them into the parts list to calculate the power consumption on the assumption that PCPartPicker may not acknowledge that the Cosmos II case comes with a 200mm front panel fan with LED lights, 3x 120mm fans (1 on top and 2 for the lower HDD bays) and a single 140mm exhaust fan.

The 2x Corsair SP120 fans are mounted to the side cover to provide some cool air for the GPUs.

2. The Sandisk Extreme HDD is an old drive re-purposed from use with an Atomos Ninja recorder and is currently serving as a mirror of the Kingston SSD which is the boot drive.  So the price for this drive should not actually be included for the build.

3. The 2 Zotac Titan X have been modified by replacing the stock coolers with the EVGA ACX 2.0 Titan X coolers.

4. The 2 Western Digital and the 2 SeagateHDDs are in RAID 0 for each pair.  The WD HDDs serve as storage for photos and videos while the Seagates are for archiving finished projects.  The 2 Samsung SSDs are also in RAID 0 and serve as storage for working files and game installations.  I have external RAID drives for proper backup of data.

So my question is:

Q1. Do I need to change/upgrade the Corsair 850W PSU?

According to PCPartPicker the build can potentially use up to 909W.  When I initially built this PC I didn't use PCPartPicker to check all the details, especially the potential power consumption of the fans, therefore I thought 850W was enough.  Of course I understand that if I wanted to add additional components, even if just adding LED strips to make things look nice, I will need a higher PSU.

As you can see in the attached photo, I am hopefully succeeding at keeping the main area of the case low of clutter that could restrict airflow.  The back side of the case is another matter entirely.
